The 16-35/4 is good with IR (720) as is the 24-70/4 but both are not perfect. So far i have not found a perfect native e-mount for IR. The Batis 25 is good and the 24-70 GM as well and i used the 70-400 Sony a lot with good results.
It all depends on the light and the aperture etc....
The old lenses designed and made for IR will be the best but i don't have one ...
Cheers
Werner
Thanks, Werner. Yes, I'm using the 24-70 f/4 but have to watch my aperture and keep it at f/8 or wider. I also have the 55 f/1.8 which works well. The 70-200 f/2.8 seems at first glance to do OK up until f/5.6. Neither the 85 f/1.4 or 1.8 are up to the task. Same is true for the 28 f/2 and 35 f/2.8. Pretty frustrating. I can use my Nikon 14-24 and other lenses but native mount would be nice.

thanks, not sure what the name of the column basalt formation is, but the shot was taken from silver star mountain. here's a 270° panorama from the same spot (with the contax g 28):
your supposed to be able to see at least 5 of the cascade peaks from there, but i was stuck in the clouds when i went up.
So a couple months back I sold my C/Y 35-70, wasn't using it much but definitely missed it. Got to thinking though, I'm more of a 35mm shooter, so I'd love a short zoom centered around 35 rather than 50. After a bit of searching, enter the Nikon Ai-S 25-50 f/4. First trip out I was luke warm, but took a walk around town and this lens started to show its strengths. It's distortion is minimal and mostly simple (though I do see some mustache at 25mm, but just in the very corner.) Sharpness is good and rendering is pretty pleasant. 9 straight blades makes sun stars possible but it will also flare, so have to tread carefully. Definitely going to explore it more.
