Saw the post-rock band Mono at First Avenue last Wednesday, playing with doom sludge stoner metal band Sleep. Shame they were just opening for Sleep, Mono is one of my favorites.
I go to a lot of shows up here in Duluth, but I haven't been to First Ave for 20 years. I wanted to take some photos, but didn't know what First Ave's camera policy was in practice, so I asked on Facebook. An old high school friend tagged a friend of his who happens to manage the event photographers and social media for First Ave - one thing led to another, and I find myself the official photographer for the night. Got me on the guest list and arranged for a photo pass. Sometimes, the internet is magic.
This was my first time photographing in a larger venue down in the press pit. First time having to live by the three song rule. It's a different kettle of fish than the kind of clubs where I usually do my thing. More pressure, less time, less intimacy, and a lot less flexiblity. A totally different dynamic. Still, the place was packed so tight I was very grateful to have the photo pit.
I'm not super happy with the photos I got for Mono - the entrance line was so long, we missed the first 15 minutes of the show, and but I managed to talk the security guys into giving me five minutes in the photo pit. Certainly better than what I got from outside the photo pit later in the show.
Revisiting the old family church, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Aberdeen.
New protective plastic over the stained glass windows. The need to protect a church is not one of the better social changes in the modern era (and I'm not even religious).
Did you have any destination for your next photography trip?
Your images from Norway and Iceland were breathtaking so can't wait to see what’s following.
Thanks Jack.. I'm going back to Iceland sep 20 this year
Feeling I'm not done with Iceland
This time mid and north part
The last trip was the eastern and southern part
Phillip: Super series, first one has really awesome light
Bob - Great stuff from the lake
Joshua - These Venice shots are just awesome, especially love the mood in the misty one
Ronny - More great images from Lofoten, damn I really need to get a trip up there. Whats with the fisheye, do you de-fish in processing?
Sorry for the those I've not mentioned, there's just so much quality imagery here and the thread moves too fast

Love the shots, arduluth, especially that first one!
I'm going to see Mono for the first time tomorrow, only found out about the show last week and can't believe it's not a bigger venue (Lee's Palace in Toronto, only holds 600 people or so).
Hadn't thought about bringing a camera, but might!
Ah all the imagery of spring and then just to throw a spanner in the works someone from the southern hemisphere posts up some autumn shots. I keep forgetting it's not spring everywhere
