Hi Ole, thank you very much for your compliment. I am flattered....
Both features, AF and the ability to focus closer than the actual MFD of the lens make it the game changer. I do have the Hawk's Factory adapter with helicoid tube as well and it works great and precise. It is basically my go to adapter for Leica-M to Sony E adapter.
Here is a brief rundown of the Techart - Basically, the AF works by varying the distance of the entire lens to the sensor. The lens is set at its infinity setting for that purpose and the adapter adjust the distance to get the image into focus. Now, if you try to focus at close to the MFD of the lens that way, the adapter extends like an automatic extension tube and then if you turn the actual focusing ring of the lens to its MFD, then you get a closer focusing distance than what the focusing ring of the lens indicates.
However, the close focusing ability of the Techart is not as close as that you get using the Hawk's adapter but with continuous AF. But it is still better than a regular Leica-M to Sony E adapter enables you. From my experience, it would vary from lens to lens but I venture to say I could focus to approximately 0.6-0.7m from a lens with an MFD of 1m, like the 50mm Summilux f/1.4 ASPH. I do not have the Contax 35-70mm lens and from what I could gather when set a the macro distance, the MFD of this lens lets you get almost actual macro ratio. I will let somebody, like Bob, and others that actually has/have that lens chime in. Hope this helps.
Thank you Joshua. I have been looking into this adapter for some time, so when you say its a game changer for you, it just gives me even more push! I think that combined with some ZM or Leica lenses, this package can offer a real alternative to some of the large glass that Sony has started to produce. I have recently bought both the C Sonnar 50 and Tele-Tessar 85, and a Distagon 35/1.4 will arrive in late September. All of these will work great with the Hawks adapter, but could be even more versatile with the Techart. Only sad thing is that it requires PDAF, which means I have to upgrade to a Sony A7ii or Sony A7rii.(To be clear, I would love to upgrade, but my wife would not...)
Lake Quinault - Olympic Peninsula, Washington state. Gorgeous place. There were forest fires nearby, so it was smoky/hazy most of the time we were there. Bits of ash accumulated on our car.
First with the CV 10/5.6, rest with the LM 35/1.4 FLE.
Great shots Taylor! It is an incredibly beautiful place with many moods. Love these pics, particularly the b&w, though tough to pick a favorite.
