Xavier, how do you find that lens? With rgds to smearing etc. It's interesting as the G28 fails pretty hard while the G45 is superb on the A7's.

I like it quite a bit. No smearing past f2,8 and nice rendering. However, I don't think is as good as the G45, that it's amazing. Still, it's early days, since I haven't had much time to shoot with it. We'll see…

Oh man...Drose, that bird freaks me out.

Few from today's outing with the 85mm still.

Little close for this shot but I only had the one lens with. This is an old schoolhouse, about to be torn down I heard.

Wow Joshua. Great set. I was waiting for your pics with the 135/1.8. The bokeh looks fantastic.

Curious of your suggestions for a good 135 for the A7r ? I used to get some great pics on the nex 7 with a rokkor MD 135 (I paid $15 for the rokkor and It made many large format prints!) but after seeing what I get with the fe lenses on the a7r it, um, does not quite seem to compete at that level! Are there some "affordable" gems in hiding out there?

compared to the FE lenses, no, not really.

you can find competent lenses for a reasonable amount but if you want performance matching the FE lenses, I think you're in for the 135 APO Sonnar or 135 Leica.

Some shots with the Sony a7; haven't learned any of the web-sharpening techniques to enhance quality, so I'm not sure how these photos will turn out:

Hi Manu, thanks! The bokeh is really good and sharpness is excellent. The AF is accurate but it is fairly loud and not as swift. Definitely not up to the AF of current Canon or Nikon gear. For portraits it is fine, in other words.

Either the Canon FD 135mm f/2.0 (smaller, and lighter) for around $350.00 or the Canon EF 135mm f/2.0L (larger and a little heavier) for approximately $800.00. If you use a Metabones adapter, which cost $400 by itself, you get it to AF albeit a little slow using the EF version and the EXIF data will be transferred into the files. Not quite as bitingly sharp as the Zeiss 135mm f/2.0 Apo Sonnar or the Zeiss 135mm f/1.8 ZA but they are still superb lenses with plenty of resolving power and at a fraction of the price of both Zeiss lenses. I am sure that there are other 135mm lenses but these are the ones I am familiar with and have working experience with.

While I love the 135L on my 5D, IMO it's too (front)heavy on the A7, same goes for any of the 70-200's. Even mounted on a tripod, my hand starts hurting after a while.

Here are a few more from this past weekend. Got the Voigtlander Ultron 21mm 1.8 with the closer focus adapter:

This is with the Ultron 21mm @ 1.8 at the closest focusing distance. Wide open at close distance is really fun. I set the focusing ring to the closest distance and focus by shifting the camera back and forth using focus peaking. Sharpness is more than acceptable:

Here is the Voigtlander 21mm 1.8 @ f8. I am still on the fence with this lens stopped down... despite what you may have read on the net, there is considerable purple casting on the left and right side of the image on my copy of this lens. This is on an A7r.

With the Zeiss 55mm 1.8. I am consistently impressed with the sharpness of this lens wide open.

The colour casting is so easy to correct in ACR that it is almost not worth to mention it anymore.
Cover the area on the left and right side with the graduation filter and move the colour slider till it's right and you can use it everytime.

BTW The lens is also nice sharp at longer distances and has remarkeble little distortion for a 21 mm lens.
