Did the image quality std raise a notch further the last couple of pages? I think so.

Sry to bring it down again. Got myself the FE 35/2.8 today and a very informal test on a Merc that happened to be in the same spot on the way back.

First the CV35/1.2 @ 1.2 and then the FE35/2.8 @ 2.8. The FE is scaringly sharp but the CV arent doing too bad either especially given it's F/1.2

I can't get over how sharp everyone's photos are. Reckon I'm missing a trick in regards to sharpening images and or resizing. I'm hating being a noob at PP.

Great images guys.

Great images guys.

Most people here use step sharpening which gives much crisper results than LR default sharpening : https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1159959

Thanks for posting these, quite informative -- the FE is sharper, but still the Voigt shot has more character, IMHO. (I'd say that the FE ain't doing too bad either ;-)

+1 to that. That was exactly what I felt as well. My voigt 35/1.2 II is on the FS board but I have such a hard time letting go of this lens.

There isn't a whole lot wrong with this camera. A lacking Auto-ISO implementation, weak battery, slow startup and reaction times, weak mount springs (I found this out today by pulling and pushing the lens left and right, and seeing the lens or adapter move w.r.t. the mount), and worst of all, internal sensor reflections for high contrast areas, but all the rest is pretty much positive, neglecting personal preferences, like control layout (which I find decent, but not great). I quite like the camera, and am hoping for a better A8 or A9 to come out, with more robust body, and better sensor reflection characteristics, a bigger battery, as well as the other niggles fixed. I also hope for a nice firmware update for the bracketing, Auto-ISO and whatever issues (such as monitor backlight being on when the monitor is turned "off"). Meanwhile, I am hoping for a strong Zeiss showing for manual FE lenses, promised around Photokina.

Like I also said in the general A7(r) thread: for me the biggest flaw so far is the sensor flare of the A7. This is what I get when I just point it at the lights in the room here:

Absolutely horrible. I'll have to figure out if I'm going to return the camera because of it. I wasn't expecting that the issue would to be this bad.

On the other hand: the 55/1.8 FE is already growing on me. I don't think I've ever owned a lens with more pop when shooting (mid) distant subjects wide open.

For those commenting on the CV 35 1.2. I think it is just as sharp as the FE 35. Now, the FE does have the advantage in zones B&C until F 5.6, but after that, the CV catches up and is just as sharp or sharper in the center at F 2.8. CV is, to me, the more versatile lens. However, for landscape use, I leave it at home and take the FE due to weight hiking.

Now after shooting one week landscapes in Greece and before that few months winter scenes etc. it start to be quite clear to my that I'll leave FE35 more or less permanently home. Lens is good, but if you have large neutral areas (cloudy sky, snow, etc.) it makes life hard due to green and magenta tints on B and C zones. Also lens has been made too small and there is still difference between f/8 and f/11 in vignetting!!! Of course these can be corrected in post processing, but my leading principle is to choose my gear and give more effort on shooting phase to avoid post processing.

It was huge disappointment seeing the images from Greece, and realising so many of them need extra effort to remove color tints. I think it's time for me to stop trying and just give up and use the well performing Zeiss ZE-series 35mm lenses. Small and light are nice attributes, but how I value things they definitely won't go over performance.
