Playing with my newly acquired Contax G 90/2.8.

Blue hour from my balcony in Minneapolis with a 100% crop. I'd say this lens is plenty sharp on the A7R.

I exported directly from LR5.3 without step down sharpening. I can definitely see a loss of sharpness compared to the file on my monitor.

I had to return my Samyang 14mm.
I am glad I bought it from BH photo, no issues with ordering from Australia. Email communications and sent an image showing the smearing in one corner on the A7R and they accepted that this was a fault of the lens and sent the RMA form.

testing 90s again. This is the CV 90/3.5 APO Lanthar, 240 grams, about 350USD used. Reputably the sharpest CV RF lens excepting the 50/3.5

On the M9 the lens is jaw dropping, while on the A7 I would not rate it without more 90s to compare.

I had been using the tele-elmarit 'thin', which is equally compact, but which flares real easy and does not totally 'wow' on the M9. The CV is a sweet handler, and so nice if you are on hike etc. 28-50-90 is a nice set.

Never tried the CV 90 but have had a few other focal lengths I did like. I thought the CV 40mm was one of the sharpest lens I ever had. I've got the Zeiss Sonnar 90mm 2.8, I like it on the Contax G1 camera but I'm not to impressed with the adapter I have for the lens for digital use, suppose I should invest in a better adapter as I have the 2/28 also. Really liking my Zeiss 2/100 since I got the new adapter for it, I picked up a AF Canon EF to E (a) mount for less then half of the metabones adapter and I'm happy with it, camera control aperture and Exif data works. Here's one more of the kids toy doll, she makes a good model.

I found trying to moving box and do the tracking focus have two issue in addition to slow (you need hit the center button first then move), distract composition, overload camera which have limited process power. No wonder you will feel frustrated. This can not be used for tracking kids

Wide AF area and face detection work best with kids. You just compose and wait for the box to light up in green on the face. Alternatively, you can use focus/recompose with the flexible small box, but kids tend to move a lot, so unless they're static, or you're willing to sacrifice a bit on the composition part, it's not gonna give you the best results.

great! i will try using the wide area + face detection.

i had a D90 and only use the basic functions most of the time, got a little confused with the terms and many features with the A7.

its great to be here1 i get to learn from the best.

i tired and realised that when a face is detected , the box is always grey until i half press the shutter . when shutter is half pressed then the box will turn green. but the box will not move anymore even if the face moves away.

is the above correct?

is my settings correct?

i am on: DMC, Lock-on AF is OFF, Focus area is Wide, Face Detect ON.

1. should i switch to AF-C?

2. what does Lock-on AF do anyway? because i can't tell the difference when its On or Off. I think it only works in AF-C and i have this Big Green box that follows my subject and it keep changing in size.
