While waiting for the GM 70-200/2.8, I opted for the Minolta 80-200 f/2.8 HS G lens. I was fortunate in that bought it from Japan in mint+++ condition for 1/3 of the price for a Canon 70-200 f/2.8 II.
I did have many reservations about the AF and the size. The lens arrived this morning and it is a lot smaller and lighter than the Canon 70-200/2.8 II. The AF is very fast and locks on accurately in one movement with the LA-EA4, surprisingly so. The AF works really well from 80mm to 200mm. I also suspect the AF is more responsive with 80-200/2.8 than the ZA 135/1.8.
The images are very sharp even wide open. More testing needed.
Very first shot of Marisa with the A7rII and Minolta 80-200 f/2.8 HS G...Show more →
Charles, How loud do you find the focus motor on this lens? Some have said it is too loud for weddings. Have you compared it with the regular version of this lens?
Note: Based upon all the great shots you have posted the 24-240 I picked up a copy for my upcoming trip to Cuba.

Thank you Butch The Minolta 80-200/2.8 HS G is a wonderful lens. The lens is brutishly fast and accurate in its AF. I will take this anytime over a slow and hit-miss AF. The lens possibly would be too loud for a wedding when it is very quiet, but I would be happy to use it. The Minolta rendering is excellent and it seems to excel between 80 to 160mm. The only negative is the MFD of 1.8m, but I take this as package as the lens is very compact in comparison to other f/2.8 lenses. Of course with the LA-EA4 you lose about a 1/2 f stop, but you have the separation of a f/2.8 lens which is IMO is important at the shorter FL's of the zoom and having the A7rII the shutter speed is not as restricted with the IBIS.
By the Flickr EXIF, it looks like you're using the 70-400G on the a7. Is that with the lea3 or 4? How do you find the AF speed to be?
I'm looking for a good long lens, mostly for birds in trees and landscapes like your shots here. Definitely like the look of the lens, and your pictures show it off well!
CY 100/3.5. Young woman with a child slung behind her; her agate dZi is a common form, though very few Tibetans will wear originals in public these days as they are worth an unbelievable amount of money and may be several thousand years old.

Drum Sim, anyone? Just trying the Sony G Master zoom lens out at wide open...
Joshua, once again I have to say pity we are so far away... you could be my best used lenses provider
Inspired by Werner. I used the App reflections once again. Not perfect. Gulls and other things. appear as blurred spots in the image. But if a large filter is missing. to make use of.
Renč: What exp. time (frames) did you use? I would have used a longer exp. to soften even more the sky and the water. I think in day light you have to use a ND filter and the app to get very long exposures. The app + ND underexposes by one stop.

Have a nice Sunday!

Hi Werner.
I have only used the setting 'smoke', setting means. No Filter (complicated with the 15mm 2.8) still need to experiment a little.

MJKoski -- Okay! I see the four tiny little screws holding the base plate onto the adapter foot. I may need to Loctite those in.
I hand hold a lot, so it may not be as much of an issue for me, not carrying the camera/lens around mounted to the tripod.
Scary stuff!
Thanks again.
The foot is NOT screwed onto the adapter. If you snap off the foot part you can see a spring inside and on the other end of the spring there is a tiny piece of metal which is attached (god knows how..) to the adapter part. This is really crappy construction and I do not understand how someone is even selling it. Perfect example of a dumb*** bean counter toying away with a fancy excel sheet how to cut the costs.
It is nice to know they are not tearing apart these old buildings in your country. In Finland almost every single ruin or abandoned old architecture is being leveled. Just cause.
