Well, in Norwegian we have a saying which goes like "det blir som å hoppe etter Virkola". Literally translates into "that is like jumping after Virkola (one of the true legends in ski jumping)". That is slightly how I feel when I see the posts of Joshua these days All of the photos, first the portraits and then the architecture shots, are simply gorgeous Joshua. Very inspiring!
Over to something more important - I think that suffer from GAS. Yesterday I was out shooting with my VC75/1.8. I was very happy with it, as always. Its great for portraits, and I instantly asked myself "why don't I use this more often?". Well, today, I took it out again with my wife. Like yesterday it served its purpose very well, and I had fun using it. But then, a couple of hours later I traveled to Mong Kok, which is a mekka for photogs like myself. More precisely, I went to a mall named Sim City, which consists of three floors packed with photo shops. Lots of second hand, and lots of stuff that I never see in Norway. If heaven is a place on earth - Sim City must be it. So I walk around four at least two hours, and test a few lenses here and there. Then, at the third floor there is this tiny shop (all of the shops are tiny actually), and they have a very old version of the Leica Elmarit 90 R. I attach it to my camera and start playing around. Judging from the serial number it must have been made in 1966-67, and it was quite "used", to put it that way. But it was a dream to use. The focus ring was fantastic, unlike any of my newer Zeiss' or VC's. I was a bit in love. But the lens was not really in a good conditions, and I had to let it go. I went up and down the mall, maybe three times, and looked for a similar lens, but could not find it. Finally, I saw a shop that was closed, but they had put up a sign that they also had a shop in Tsim Sha Tsui, just a couple of metro stations away from where I was. So I told my wife (yeah, she was actually with me the entire time... she is amazingly patient with me sometimes) that we had to go to have a look. And then, when I got there I saw a mint version of the Elmarit 90 R. I tried it on my A7 and I was in love. Sad thing is, I couldn't hide it, and the guy behind the counter knew that I was an easy target. Hence, the price was fixed (although I did get a discount on a great Japanese converter).
So here I am, with yet another new lens. In the last 2 months I've bought Loxia 50, Loxia 21, and now the Elmarit 90. The Loxia 21 I needed, but the two others were really just because I liked them so much that I had to have them. When I get back from Hong Kong I will have to start selling some of my other stuff...
Anyway, here are a few shots that I took right after buying the lens. So far so good Amazing colours and great bokeh. What a fun lens!
