Peire, your second shot was really nice.
But it seems you need a week off in spring time away from home to play with your ever increasing lens arsenal...
Prophet,or so?
Yes,the spring will be welcomed. The second part of winter is the hardest to stand.
I can see some snowdrops, lilies of the valley and primroses starting to bloom, but it's yet at least one month for spring to get started.
I try to fill up that time with new experiences and today I visited a newly discovered old village nearby with the Elmar R 35-70/4.What a great zoom.Pictures are being worked out now.

I tried 2 different copies of the 50/1.4 ZF.2 on my A7 cameras and both were exactly the same. No misalignment or decentering, only that more pronounced curved focus plane. Even on the 12MP A7S. Because of this I also tried more than one adapter... but still the same results.
I have now tested this with A7r (not shown here) and A7 (shown below, and fullsize attached).

It's also very noticeable when shooting in portrait orientation. For example: when I shoot a larger free standing tree that's at a distance of +15m and focus on the center of the tree... The zone of focus goes from almost my feet to the center of the tree and back towards me at the top. The bottom and top of the tree are out of focus. With careful focus you can get the whole tree in focus, but the focal plane is always much more curved than when I used the lens on a Canon camera. I hardly had any weird surprised, just like you. It was great for landscapes. Most ZE/ZF lenses that I shot on the A7 were fine, but this one and the 18 are most problematic for me.
It'll be interesting to see how the lens works for you on the A7 cameras. ...Show more →
Thanks for providing test scenario. I did shoot some other tests and the scenario you mentioned. My ZE1.4/50 does not have similar field curvature as the 2 copies you tested and described above; the thick sensor glass effect can only seen on very corner of the image, outside the red ring in photo below. For sure the "normal" field curvature of ZE1.4/50 is also much worse than it was with Canon sensor cover glass, but it won't come from 15m to few meters like yours.
f/2.8, focus to center of image (the tree), camera lens axis ~170cm from ground
I hope that Kolari thin cover glass will also improve overall performance of ZE1.4/50. At large distances it's much worse than it was in 5DmkII, with which this lens was usable for landscape photography starting from f/2.8.
My friend arrived with his small doughter (2 months and 11 days old) to take some photos At this age she can´t
raise her neck longer so it was quite hard to take some front photo
Greggf: Nice bokeh, as always. I like the indifferent look above.
Ronny: All those shots from Iceland are very impressive. If it wasn't that far away, I'd seriously considering going at some point.
Rene: Beautiful landscape. Initially, I thought European winters had become really warm, before realizing that this shot was taken in May .
Helena: Wonderful series. You have an amazing eye.
Werner: Excellent composition.
Harry: Those are great shots with the big Tammy.
Joshua: The lightning in those shots from Rome is breathtaking.
Charles: Another beautiful portrait of your better half. Looking forward to your work with the 85 GM.
Here is something different for a change. Sure, the a7rii is not going to rival a 1DX or D5, but for occasional birding, it works just fine. Both shot in crop mode for the FF equivalent of 600mm.
Hello guys, returned from my short trip to Venice with Joshua and his friends, now it is time to congratulate with you for the incredible last few pages: Bob (in color & in BW), Renè, Werner, Ronny, Charles, Daniel, Jordan, Peire (especially for cats), Helena, mcbroomf, Butch, Gregg, Phillip, Chris and all other travel friends here on FM (sorry if I didn't mention all names, too long list)
Ahhh... and of course my congratulation also to my Jedi Master Joshua
From me, here a couple of grabs between lot of masks
