Hey guys, I need to ask you another question.

How is your memory card cover? I mean does it have a slight play up and down? I thought it should be really tight (with no play/loose), but somehow I could feel the rubber cover moving so slightly up and down while I'm holding the camera...

I wanted to ask you guys to see if this is a normal behavior before I give Sony a call. BTW, do you know where to contact for Sony tech support?

Thanks!

Mine moves up and down some but I don't see it as an issue.

Oh no, I don't see it as an issue either... But I would assume it should have been a little tighter (like my 1DX!! )

So this is normal? Anybody else?

Same with mine, there is a very slight up and down play and I didn't notice until you brought it up .

Great images! Some old FD lenses play nicely on that camera, too, huh? I just got my 135mm f/2.0 and I am pleased with it.

That cover moves in mine too... I am not sure if i should be happy that its not my camera that is fault, or mad that it moves in the first place. hehe

I could pick up my SEL-2470Z from the parcel shop today and was able to get pictures soon after.
Here are some of my first results with the lens on the A7r:

70mm f4 1/40s ISO 100

56mm f5.6 1/50s ISO 800

24mm f5.6 1/40s ISO 100

24mm f5.6 1/30s ISO 1250

70mm f4.0 1/70s ISO 4000

34mm f5.6 1/10s ISO 2500

24mm f5.6 1/8s ISO 1250

56mm f4.0 1/10s ISO 1250

All hand-held and processed in LR 5.3.

Bigger sized images are available on flickr:

As a special service for the fantastic Fred Miranda forum, the RAWs can be found on dropbox:

Edit: downsizing for web and sharpening was done with ImageMagic + LR/Mogrify 2 plugin using Lanczos rescale and Unsharp Mask.
All scaling and sharpening steps inspired by various threads here on the alt forum.

Minomaniac -- thank you very much for the 24-70mm samples. Downloading the raws right now. You should cross post these in some of the dedicated 24-70mm threads so people don't miss this valuable post.

As for my picture -- It's already starting to blossom in California!

FE 55mm @2.8 on A7R

I'm experimenting with downsizing & output sharpening for web display. Does this look oversharpened to you?

Yep. All hand-held.

Edit: had resting my elbow on the handrail of the bridge, I was standing on, in some of the photos and was using the battery grip.

70mm is the only setting were the SEL2470 isn't super sharp from f/4 in the center, but I like the bokeh and rendering in general

As always you make any lens shine Phillip!
The medium distance sheep shot at 70mm shows a rather pronounced double line bokeh that would have been even more pronounced with a more contrasty background, ideally I would have preferred a little smoother bokeh for shots like these.

Took some snapshots this afternoon to test the Sony A7r AF under low light condition, it worked well on the 55FE lens.
