The FE 55mm is definitely too short to capture closeup wildlife but it performs just fine for environmental wildlife . Here are 3 images for that exact purpose with sandhill cranes as the main targets. These were taken near and at the crane pool at Bosque del Apache, New Mexico last week.

fantastic shots! these are my kind of bird shots.

I was out doing some search and rescue training tonight, but snuck my a7, Nockton 50/1.5 and a tripod along. This one was 30 secs at f/4 and ISO 250, then pushed a bunch in LR5...

So many great images on this thread. But even in this illustrious company, Shelt's night landscape is really something special.

shelt, try white balance 2500-2800K (and green/magenta tint somewhere between 5-10) assuming the hills are lighted by orange street lights. Will turn your sky really blue and foreground pretty realistic.

Ebrandon - thanks for the very kind words!

Samuli - Good suggestion. The hills are, in fact, still very golden due to our drought. But, the colors are surely intensified by the sodium lighting several mles away (as are the clouds). I have a bunch of shots from tonight, so I'll try your WB ideas out tomorrow and see what happens!

Great images from everyone on this page

Sony A7R with Olympus 24mm/2.8 (first three) and Sony Zeiss 35mm/2.8

The Olympus lens has considerable distortion but is fantastically sharp at f8 - I am using the Zeiss 21mm lens correction profile in lightroom with added 5% manual distortion to get things under control.

If anyone has a lens correction profile for this lens please PM me

I see plenty of starbursts, Edward.

Where?

The ZM produce 12 rays starbursts, but I can't see any in the FE 55 shots.

However, I will test again in better conditions.

Edward, I like what your have posted of late.

The setup for these three: A7R->Phigment Tech adapter->Summilux 35

I am still having a very hard time shooting with this camera. Partially, it's my eyesight no longer being what it was, for manual focus, and partially it's simply a technically overwhelming little device.

Thank you very much!

Love the 2nd shot! Can't do that with a Leica

Try photographing stationary lights. I have gotten some starbursts from street lamps in cityscapes.

AgeoJO post of Very Large Array: It looks as though the Leica 24mm Summilux ASPH performs well on the A7/r.

I decided to give the Auto Bellows + FD 100 f/4 macro a try on the A7...

The first one is with the nFD 50 f/3.5 Macro without bellows.

One more from Mt. Burdell, with the sodium lighting from a distant town cancelled via WB adjustment (a7, FE 35, f/3.5, 25 sec @ISO 250):

Two from this afternoon. It wasn't worse than -5°C, but after some time you just don't want to fiddle with changing lenses, so I mostly used the FE 55. A lens that continues to amaze me. How can it be this good? I didn't think it was possible.
