I just did a test set up for a headphone/model shoot that's coming in next week. I used a Rodenstock 105mm APO Rodagon mounted by a Zork MFA adapter to the A7r . The final shot will have a new set of headphones and a live model. This combination is nothing short of phenomenal. The MFA gives me tilt and shift capabilities with the A7r that was one of the main reasons I bought the Sony. For extreme detail of products like watches and jewelry it can't be beat, also controlled focus for food photography is another plus.

Have you tried shooting jewellery with the A7R yet? I wonder if sensor reflections would cause problems.

Lightning speed of the thread, no way to keep up. Got the FE55/1.8 a couple of hours ago. AF is not very intuitive and I find it hard to find good settings for fast focusing. But no doubt it is a magnificent lens, here are 3 shots out of the first dozen, all in the dark wideopen.

wfrank - Love the second one!
---

Just for fun (not a scientific test in any way...)
Shot three very similar photos today and yesterday. Also Similar PP LR settings.

First is Rokkor 58 at 2.0
Second FE 55 at 1.8

Third is rokkor 58 at 1.2
Fourth is Fe 55 at 1.8
These with the exact same LR settings except for lens correction (on with 55 fe.)

----
Edit:

Last two: first one Rokkor, second one FE 55 (not exactly the same but does give some indication on contrast etc. Both wide open.)

I haven't shot any jewelry yet but I'm not really worried about it after looking at the slightly overexposed images of the Philips headset and the chrome on it. I don't think there's anything this camera can't do, but I think I might be biased. The photography and imagery that's being posted on this thread are incredible.

maybe it's confirmation bias, but I like the second picture better in every pair.

Again, great images have been posted at a wrapped speed .

Here are a few from a visit to an interesting site last weekend. It is called the VLA (Very Large Array) approximately an hour west of Socorro in New Mexico. It is one of the world's premier astronomical radio observatories, consisting of 27 radio antennas/dishes This site is the shooting location of a few science-fiction movies, among others, "Contact", a 1997 movie starring Jodie Foster and Matthew McConaughey.

The first two were taken with a Canon lens using Metabones adapter and the remaining three were taken with Leica 24mm Summilux ASPH on Hawk's Lab helicoid adapter. The cloud formation that day was also very interesting. BTW, the diameter of each dish is 25 m or 82 feet. There is a woman on one of the images and a couple on the other for size perspective.

Thanks for looking,
Joshua

Sorry, missed your question, thread is moving too fast... To answer to your question, I feel little different than Carsten, but that is due to him having aperture ring and me not having it. For me it's much slower and more cumbersome to shoot with A7/A7r than 5DmkII with lenses having focus shift and electronically controlled aperture. This is because A-mode and M-mode are sharing aperture (in 5DmkII both modes remember their aperture). And even if that would work properly there is S-mode in between A-mode and M-mode. Lens itself performs very well.

However due to how controls and firmware

Is that a Zork MFA or MFS adapter? I went to the Zork site and I could not find the MFA Adapter. How does it look on the Sony? Can it be used hand held? Do you need the tilt and shift adapter plus something else to mount it on the E mount? Sorry too many questions... I also have a Rodenstcok 105mm that I'd like to adapt to the Sony.

Thanks,

Raul

James . . . above sunrise shot was taken with temp about 3 degrees F and some gusts. Patience with focusing and even composition were pretty limited . . .

Another in my "cold waterfall" series of late. This is Whitewater falls. Not much color interest, so I figured I would post a B&W version. This fall is 411 feet (maybe 130 meters) high. This is with the A7r, FE 55, F13 at 1/3 of a second with polarizer and ND filter.

Hi Raul,
Sorry about the terminology, Yes it is called a Zörk Multi Focus System and it will work perfectly with the A7. http://www.zoerk.com/pages/p_mfs.htm There the system I have has a canon mount so all you need is a cheap canon to E mount adapter. You should contact Joshua at Zork, he is the USA distributor and is extremely helpful and Knowledgeable about the German system. He is at [email protected] Tel. 541-357-5045. Not only can you tilt and shift with this but there is a way to do a three frame stitch.

thebratts, the FE55 is downright scary, even in exalted company, it's quite the all-seeing eye. Colour purity and tonal separation are amazing. The bokeh appears excellent, it has that Zeiss detail within blur look. thanks a lot for these examples..

A fun shot from Columbus Circle in New York City a couple of weeks ago. I especially like the colors from this camera.

A7R with the FE 35mm.
