Hmm... Let's see I just zoomed in 1000%, I should be able to see her reflection in each droplet but I can't. Just stick with the 50mm f1.8 for sharpness, jk!
Funny! :-)
End of 2014, I tried downsizing my kit and was thinking of going all mirrorless with E-M1. But thanks to 58mm, no way I can part D750+58mm combo. Just a test shot after I got my 2nd copy of the lens

I feel the same. Have the E-M1 but can't give up the Nikon fast primes for their rendering.
I need lens advice for another prime to go with my 58mm. I almost entirely just take pictures of my young family.
I currently use the nikon 24mm 1.4. It's phenomenal. The problem is that I find it a bit wide most of the time. I'm thinking about selling it for a 28mm or 35mm. If the nikon 28mm didn't have field curvature, I would probably get it. That leaves me with 35mm. Either the sigma for awesomeness or the Nikon for better portability (I really like the 58's light weight and small size).
Is 35mm too close to 58? I almost never carry two lenses because I always have kid gear with me. I also no longer have an 85mm so my next primes are 105mm and 135mm.
I use my 58mm so much that another option is to just sell the 24mm for money and only use the 58mm. If I need wider, I would just carry my 24-70.

I pretty much only use my 58 and 35/1.8 these days. It's a good combo, but the 28 is a solid lens. My go to between the 28/35 is the 35 because I don't always want the perspective distortion of 28. I went to sell my 28, but I'd really regret it come spring/summer because it is a great landscape lens.
Hey Elijah.... my little dude has the same smile as your bride! Took me a while to even see the subject though as the bokeh is to die for. I scan images backwards now. Bokeh first, subject in focus second.
Heh! Yeah, she kinda does! I have tons of images with the 58. As I edit my weddings, I try to post a few. The bokeh is da bomb, indeed!
That’s usually my priority now too. Every time I shoot, I go like “ok, this place will make the bokeh look good...”
I purchased this awesome lens two weeks ago and I'm just now going through the photos I took at a local anime convention.
The problems I've noticed with these kind of indoor conventions are:
- less than ideal lighting
- cosplayers not always looking at "your" camera
- very little time to compose and shoot as everything is rush rush
I do this for fun as it's pretty much the only portrait photography I get to practice that isn't family related.
I'm not big into anime, but I just love the creativity and attention to detail some of these cosplayers have in their costumes. I've seen some pretty wild and well done stuff!
Even though this shot wasn't taken wide open, it just goes to show how damn sharp this lens is when stopped down. I had to reduce some contrast and clarity in the very minor PP of this shot. Hope to spend more time shooting with this awesome lens and look forward to posting in this thread more often!
Oh, and if anyone knows who she is cosplaying as, that would be great.
The photo is indeed sharp when stopped down a little, but the OOF areas are still very pleasant. Was this by chance taken at the SacAnime convention? My little brother-in-law was there last weekend!

It was taken at the SanAnime (Winter 2015) convention last weekend. It's my third time going and every visit, there's always something new and exciting to see. You see lots of photography gear come out and little business cards being handed over after the cosplayers had their picture taken. The misses went with me last year out of curiosity, but I could tell it wasn't her thing. It's all good though, as it's a great place to practice your technique and accustom yourself to asking people to pose for you (if it's not something that's easy for you). I'd recommend you going next time (~September'ish~). Let me know if you do, would be great to meet a FM'er and shoot pikachu (lol).
Threads been dead. I haven't been shooting much at all, dunno why, no motivation. I think me and the little one are just trying to avoid the pregnant one
