GTFO this thread! You don't stop down this lens EVER!
But actually in your case, those are quite pleasing!
It's the image, not the f stop. Not every shot requires f1.4 and you don't always have to change lenses to stop down. IMO, using the word "EVER!" is a tad excessive.

Relax. I was only kidding . Also I also just had a shot of caffeine so that explains the excessive use of caps lock.

I'm always relaxed. Didn't intend my post to be antagonistic. Just posting a different view. It seems there is a trend to shoot everything wide open, even when stopping down would make for a better image.

That was actually really the whole point of my post. I was just poking fun at the constant f1.4 shots. It's great to see how versatile this lens can be. And I'm all for a better image.

Well, then we are in complete agreement. Sorry for missing the humor.

No need for any of that if anything I was a bit too floored hehe.
Ash. Those are seriously some of the nicer images of recent I've seen taken with the 58G. Love the colors!
Thank you! My fine tune inexplicably was off (-7 previously) suddenly I needed -2... these were the test shots and I'm pretty happy with how they turned out!
Went outside this cold morning to try the 58mm with the Brenizer method. I was curious to see how any distortion would come into play and how the bokeh would look. Shots were with the d800 set to JPEG M basic (which was stupid, should have used S). I was also curious to see how compression of the final image effected sharpness.
The 10 shot pano size ended up being 7629x6745 compressed to 1200x1061 on export from LR.
I am in no way trying to show off a "good" or artistic picture. Just showing what the bokeh looks like as a 10-shot pano. Minor adjustments to the final image in Lightroom (some spot healing, maybe +5 contrast, removed CA).

I've been meaning to try this. Just never have the time. I think you did a good job. The effect is very apparent.

nOice!! I also have a a brenizer shot of my car on my Flickr (I'll post it later)
I like using a longer lens for Brenizer tho. The bokeh just looks weird when you stich with a 58G

Here’s mine I shot on Dec 31. Do you see the funky bokeh or is just me? The oval bokeh orientation varies across the frame...
The image looks good and the bokeh doesn't diminish the image. Sam Hurd (wedding photog) gets good results using Brenizer method with a 58. The backgrounds he selects don't seem to provided for any odd bokeh issues.
