I had PM'd him about the lens before buying it. He switched ecosystems....
Shujert "I sold it only because I switched over to Leica from Nikon. The lens is fantastic, I had absolutely no issues with it and it's a wonderful lens."

So... Why did Shujert get rid of his 58g...? O_o
I just really wanted to get to the basics of photography, not rely so much on technology to do so much of the work for me. Manual focusing with a rangefinder has been challenging, but my keeper rate has gone way up and my ability to access a situation for exposure has already improved. I'll be a better photographer for the move.
Just got this lens in last week, and wanted to test it out on my next photoshoot. I'm pretty happy with this lens! Flare is very controlled, bokeh is amazing, contrast is really good, and to me its sharp wide open, little haze but thats the design for this type of lens, had to do +4 on my D4. BTS video is here:

Thinking of replacing my 50 1.4G and 85 1.8G with this lens. Any downside? I still have the 24-120 for the odd telephoto work.
I have a 50mm 1.4 that I never use (just an "eh" lens to me) and sold my 85mm 1.4 (awesome) after buying the 58mm.
note that the 85 and 58 are pretty different lenses - focal length, sharpness, rendering, etc. One's not better than the other in my mind. just different.

I sold my 50mm f/1.8G and 85mm f/1.8G after buying the 58G. It's a no brainer. However, I will say this again and again, I would never purchase a 58mm f/1.4G if I wouldn't own a 70-200VRII.
IMHO, If you don't own a telephoto or something like a 135D, you're better off with an 85mm f/1.4G.

I tend to agree with you there. I dumped my 85/1.8G and 135/2, picked up a 80-200 AF-S. My kit feels A LOT more complete.
Thanks for the advice all! I figure of there feels like a hole in my kit I can add a 105 or 135 to the kit (or get an 80-200 or 70-200). Seems like with 58, the next lens up should not be 85..too close.
