Just curious if you owned the 50 1.2L before you switched? I think the 58 is pretty similar, but I'd love to hear your thoughts!
yep I did, I am a 35-50-85 kind of guy throughout most of the day. The 50L was magical just like this lens, I prefer the bokeh, af, and weight of this one, but I do miss the color and flare I get from the 50L, in fact I miss the color from canon a lot but I think over the slow season I will be able to find a decent editing style that brings it close enough to where I was.

I hate making flash obvious, but I couldn't resist crushing ambient to bring out the bokeh
Hi Jason. Nice shot. Forgive my ignorance but I'm confused as to what your comment means. In what way did using flash help bring out the bokeh? FWIW I don't think there is anything all that obvious about flash being used, I presumed it was camera left? The side of the man's face sort of looks like it has evening light shining through on him (similar to the long shadows in the photo).

If he wouldn't have used flash, the bokeh "quality" would be poor/overexposed when metering for the skin. These dSLR's are not medium format cameras They are limited in dynamic range.

Basically what Elijah said; bringing up the flash allowed me to bring down ambient. It's a matter of the background being blown out or more evenly exposed. The lower exposure obviously makes the bokeh more visible. Flash was camera right; sun was camera left.
The exif is identical because I'm a dumbass and turned up the flash instead of rolling the shutter up. I was a bit off my game since the SB600 was dying at that point from the fall
So this is what happens when you have the internet, rum, coke and some free time.
Both photos are the same. The first one just has my hand in front of the shot to simulate a smaller aperture. Notice the depth of field though increasing even though the aperture is the same as the second shot... I thought it was kind of cool.

Not limited actually. The only MF cameras which approach the DR of the latest FX bodies are the new 50MP bodies using the same sensor tech.
