Is that a Zeiss 135mm? I ask because I'm thinking about selling my 85mm 1.4 (which I love, but started using a lot less after buying the 58mm) and using the money towards a 135mm (which I'm buying strictly on reputation versus real need).

Yes that Zeiss lens is the 135. I love it, its like a mini 200 f/2 but MF.

You know what still kills me about this lens? Everytime I go back and look at 50/1.8G shots I ask myself why do I still have it.
Yea, I pretty much feel the same. It's really only under certain circumstances where the differences are apparent. I just shot a wedding where it was on my Df about 70% of the time, so we'll see how I feel about it after I finish processing them.
I really like the focal length, though; it matches my natural FOV perfectly. And that Nano coating ... oh how I love that magic dust.
I really think 95% of what makes this lens IS that nano coating. It gets you the shots in the dramatic lighting where the 1.8G would flare and lose all contrast.
Yeah, I don’t care what they say, this lens still amazes me. I don’t think I ever used a lens around 90% of the time in one session as much as I use my 58mm. A sneak peak from today...

I see a massive difference in the 50mm F1.8g vs the 58mm F1.4g. If I didn't see the difference, then there is no way I would have paid the price to get the 58mm. There is just no way the 50mm F1.8g is going to get a shot like the one Elijah posted above with the vortex looking bokeh and beautiful transition.
I felt the same way back in May when I first got my 58mm. I tried it and returned it. Used my 50mm more often after that and THEN I realized how much I missed the 58mm. I bought it again in August and sold the 50 +85 and haven’t looked back.
More than not, I felt like I was a “cheapo” with the 50mm more than it’s performance But then again, at the end of the day, if all you’re doing is comparing it to the 50G then get rid of the 58mm. I think of a 50mm f/1.8G as a poor mans 58mm.
There is nothing wrong with the 50mm F1.8g. It produces fantastic images. I just prefer the 58mm. Have you shot the same scene with the 58mm and the 50mm. I still own both and the difference is worth it for me.

I'm not bashing it; I do love it, but I'm thinking out loud. That's a lot of cash I could free up.
I'd think really hard before doing this, especially since you have a good copy. What if you started having seller's remorse so you buy another one and your new copy isn't as good or having focus issues?
The 16-35 is a lens that I've bought and sold 4 TIMES.. each time I think I can replace it with something else but I always end up buying it again. I have now sold it the 5th time and bought the 20 1.8G We'll see....
But hey.. if you're trying to free up some money to fund another exotic like a 200/2 or a 300/2.8 then you will be forgiven
Bokeh is so much nicer and so is the colour. Notice the difference in colour rendering with the Nano coat.
Now for a more recent shot with the 58 @ f/2.2
I took some advice and used f/2.2 because of the close range.
I've now sold the 50 1.4G, and have the 58 on my D810 as a default lens. I love the 58mm focal length as well as the bokeh. It just adds a tiny bit of compression but still fits a lot in.
As for the D810 - it's a different camera to the 800 in every way - better AF, better exposure, better shutter.

Isn't the 85/1.8 to the 85/1.4 what the 50/1.8 is to the 58? Wouldn't you just be in the same situation? I'd argue the 58 to 50 difference is greater due to the difference in focal length.
Hey guys! I'm new to the 58mm family on my D750. I really love the lens so far but it's been quite hard to AF-Fine Tune it right (mine flirts from +6 to +10).
Wide open sharp, it emits a somewhat greenish glow around edges and the glow disappears when the image becomes a little unsharp (start of purple edges)
