This is to all owners of a 58 1.4, especially to those who use it on a Z camera. You must use Fine tune to get the most out of this lens. On a Z7 and Z7II I am using -3, the same as what I needed on a D750, D810 and D850. And that would include several copies of the lens. Amazingly consistent. Of course someone is going to prove me wrong here but I have seen the results. There are those who think that mirrorless cameras do not need fine tune and that is not true. Especially for lenses close to 50mm. I use fine tune on the 50 1.8S as well. On other FL, not needed. Try it.

Not true for me, 0 is dead nuts on. HOWEVER, I will occasionally dial in a minus 1 or 2, especially on the 105, to “pull” the DoF plane forward a bit. In doing this for example, if I focus on an eye for a wide open portrait, the lashes and brows will now be in better focus than if left at 0. But it’s a tactic used for that specific purpose, not as a normal...
Interesting. Both my bodies benefit from a -3. I have the same criteria in all my lenses and do not need this adjustment in any other lens except the 50 1.8S. But ok...I just would say the assumption that mirrorless cameras always negate a fine tune is invalid in my experience. YMMV
always love your photos. Such a magical and ethereal quality. Shows the beauty that can be brought out in simple nature with thoughtful composition, use of light and the PP to stir the emotions and imagination.

I’ve experienced it the same, only the 58g and only wide open. Maybe the spherical aberration and field curvature sort of trick the Z. Same in pin and single point.
I needed +12 fine tune with my D850 but has been spot on with mirrorless.
The field curvature does mean that any autofocusing away from the centre point results in decreasing accuracy/sharpness.
Unfortunately my tripod was pulled from the car so I couldn't capture a good long exposure or multi exposure to get our tent in the foreground sharp. Still, the 58 makes a handy astro lens in a pinch for the less discriminating of astrophotographers:
