There is no any problem with focus on DSLR with this lens. Except very strong field curvature which creates the exact same 3D effect. The central focus point on my 58s was always as precise as it can be. But the middle of frame had to be out of focus at the same time every time. Tune middle points and you could lose the centre one. But the magic created with this lens is absolutely beast.
I had three. Two of them were sold because I didn’t understand how it works and this sombrero style focal plane. Now it’s my third lens. And I’m not going to sell it at all. I know it. I feel it. It has soul dressed with sombrero )
The only improvement with MLC like Z6/Z7 they know how to deal with the field curvature. Every focus point works as it has to work. This makes 58/1.4 absolutely brilliant with mirrorless cameras. And that’s it.

Lots of photos from our New Zealand trip. Love the versatility of the 58mm. I use it for landscapes more often than one would think!
Love the landscapes here but the first image to me is the reason why I love this lens.......the lens has no intention of producing a razor sharp image that shows the world as we see it. It produces an artistic render unapologetically. We have enough sharp lenses out there and this lens is unique and special.
You're past images are a big reason for me buying this lens and I've loved it since, so thanks!

Ya, I love the portraits too and the way this renders them first and foremost!
Quick question, I am switching back to Nikon and just repurchased 58 / 105 again.
Just the body is missing... is there noticeable autofocus accuracy / speed improvement when using the Z6II with 58mm 1.4g over the original Z6? If not, I would rather save the money and get a good old Z6.

Not really, unless you want to use eye AF with the smaller boxes. The main difference that matters to me is when adapting older glass. If you use a z6ii/z7ii, whatever data you choose in the non cpu lens data menu will copy over to exif, even the aperture you choose in that menu. On the OG z6/7 it will only copy over if you use an ftz to adapt.

Glad to hear you're returning to Nikon.....your work is fantastic!
I can only compare my Z7 with the Z6ii and say that there's a big difference to me. Whether that is the same as Z6 vs Z6ii or not I'm not sure. The Z6ii locks on earlier (farther away) and holds tighter with movement. I think most of your work that I've seen has been with stationary subjects so you may not notice much difference there. No doubt you'll see the comparisons of specs online but will add this link just in case: https://photographylife.com/comparison/nikon-z6-vs-z6-ii
If you can find a used copy of the z6ii for not much more than the Z6, I'd get that, but your needs may differ.
Curious what your experience was in moving away from Nikon and why you're coming back?
This is my all time favourite lens by far. The rendering on wide apertures and close (ish) subjects is just delectable for those who appreciate the dreamy OOF fade. However, when focused further towards infinity it is also a phenomenal lens for landscape/urbanscapes showing detail and sharpness across the frame.
I have had this lens for about a month and confess that I have mostly used it at f2.8 or so, and I am completely blown away by the 3D sharpness of the lens. Your comment inspired me to try it at f1.4 and here are my first two efforts. The more I use this lens the more it inspires me to take more images, what more can you ask of a lens.
