Beautiful captures Ivan! Ya, I love how well it works with the z6 and face af as well. Makes shooting it even better with the small package and great af! No fine tuning required

Thanks!
Yeah, I would certainly struggle with this lens on my d800(I sold it ). I did lots of the shots very low and kids do move around a lot so would have been hard to frame and try to have the right focus at the sametime. This lens certain is a good combo with my Z6 with the type of photography that I am doing with it.

@Charles.k@ Lovely photo, she seem to be a little burned. Was pretty hot here in Sydney too, but it was a Iovely break. Where about are you Charlie?
Thank you Ivan I am based here on the Gold Coast and yes Alex was suffering a heat rash as it was 38 degC and 90% humidity. I have spent way too much time with seascapes
You people are killing me. Or maybe it's this lens.
I'm fully invested in a Fuji system, 1.4 primes & 2.8 zooms, and all I want is to sell it all so I can get these amazing lenses.
Even the casual snapshots show rendering that I just can't get on my Fuji. Maybe, maybe, maybe the eventual 33/1.0 will hold a candle to Nikon's 50/1.4s, but likely not to this 58.

Dammit!!
Yeah, I had the same feeling after stumbled on to this thread. Was much easier for me since I am a Nikon user. This lens cost quite a bit but as you can see from the posts, it's a rather special lens with the most pleasing rendering you can get from a 5X mm IMO (bokeh and OOF transition is much better than the new Canon 50 1.2 R). If your prime subject is people then its well worth the money.

I think I've just decided to rent a 58mm for my birthday in a few months. I need to try it.
I really wanted to pair that rental with a D850 for evaluation. But it's just really hard to rationalize investing in an F-mount body & lens when it looks like Z mount is the future of Nikon. I haven't seriously looked at the Z 7 w/FTZ since it's first generation. Maybe I should change that.

I have the D850/D750 and I have no issues with the 58G. But then I am used of quirky lenses and love the unique IQ. With the D850 you need to take about an hour to calibrate under different shooting conditions and see what works best. Ignore a lot of the internet chatter as you will have a style of shooting portraits and calibrate the lens to specifically suit those conditions.

I love your shots Ivan particularly #2.
Thanks Charles, starting to get use to it a bit more now, it's certainly not straight forward lens in a sense that I can just pick up shoot and get the expected results like the 85 1.8
Alex's hair provides a striking contrast with the background and highlighted the beautiful OOF transition characteristics of this lens.
She is a great model : )

It is definitely the lens. The full frame in the Nikon sensor also plays a role, but the lens is magical. P.S. I shot with the Fuji gear, including the 56 f/1.2, 35 f/1.4, 23 f/1.4 and the red badge f/2.8 lenses.

why don't you rent a z6/z7 with it instead?
Without a doubt, the Z series are an amazing first step into real mirrorless for Nikon. I'm just not as interested in first-generation products anymore. I also think it will take 4-5 years to flesh out their Z lens selection. By then I would know if I wanted to stick with a few unique & classic F-mount lenses like the 58/1.4 or if they produce something equivalent for the Z (but my god, I would never buy the $6k manual focus f/0.95). I'm also concerned that, much like Fujifilm, Nikon is relying on software correction of distortion and vignetting for their new Z lenses. I want to see if that's only the cheaper f/4 lenses or if that's the new standard for all of their lenses.
I also learned photography rolling my own 35mm film canisters, shooting with a K1000, and printing in my high school's darkroom. The majority of my photography life has been with optical viewfinders and when I switched to digital it was to Nikon with the D700. I miss "real" cameras. As great as my X-T3 is, I find its old-school ergonomics to be more of an emulation, not who it actually is. It's a high-tech gadget in the guise of an old-school camera. Meanwhile the D850 is the most refined, capable, and well-rounded DSLR in existence. I look forward to shooting again with it-- I rented it last fall with the 28/1.4e after being inspired by Charles.K’s images and thoroughly enjoyed it!
Anyway, sorry to clog up the 58mm image thread. Thanks everyone for the absolutely wonderful images and inspiration. Keep 'em coming!!!
@kimballistic, I am not big fan of the z lens for now. I got the 24 70 with the camera and I am not warming to it. The only time I use it is when I need AF video. The s primes are sharp but a bit clinical and cold IMO so not a fan of them. Ibis, focus peaking, face tracking(soon eyes tracking) are some of the reasons why the fast prime will be better combos with Z, but I certainly get your concerns.
i do own now 2x Z6 as i replaced the D750s...so far my primes 24, 35, 58, 85 1.4g are working better i would say.
Still i have an event ahead to test under dj lights etc...
For the native lenses, i am not sure if i want to replace the 1.4g kings for 1.8s versions...
looking ahead for the 50 1.2, this could be the first potential native S lens for me...
