Hello, do you recall approximately what your distance to subject was for this shot. This is the type of rendering I'm looking for in seniors and weddings and I'm struggling with a decision on a number of lenses. Thank you for your time and great capture by the way.

Not sure if you are referring to my post, but it was around 10ft or so.
Just curious how many of you use Live View when shooting at, say, f1.4-1.8. I feel like at these wider apertures I have a marginal keep rate with the OVF. I have AF micro adjusted but the issue is that once my front focus was accounted for it will nail focus within 6-8 feet or so but still front focus at further distances. I feel like with live view the focus is much more on point regardless of the subject distance. Anyone with similar experiences? Nikon wanted $458 to adjust the lens...

So for anything close to minimum focal distance, I use live view, zoom 1:1 and manual focus (it's a lot quicker than you'd think) -- especially when I have control over the subject (fairly static posed portrait, still life, etc.). For stuff that's further (half body portraits), my AF micro adjust is pretty spot on and I take a lot of safety shots, making sure to have the AF re-confirm the focus.
