Guys, do you know of a cheaper alternative to this lens? it could even be manual focus. I'm really interested in the extra 8mm of compression and the smoothness of the bokeh, but I just don't see myself spending $1600 for a single 50mm-esque lens. Not that I don't think it's worth it, but the value proposition for me is not there.

Sigma 50 1.4 EX (not ART) I had it and it was close but traded it in for the 58 Nik.

Re-calibrated my 58G with Reikan FoCal. Spot-on @1.4

At what distance from the target did you do the calibration? I have the software but not 100% sure how to use for best results

I usually follow the x50 rule. For example, for a 50mm lens the distance is 50mm x 50 = 2.5m and so forth.
Or you can use this tool.

Or read this PDF, under "documents downloads" on the same site

Negative. It's a keeper. This is my 4th, actually. The first two were duds, and I've made a mistake by selling my third one.

My three favorite shots from our photoshoot last week for our youtube channel, Salina was very easy to work with. 58mm 1.4G was used on the D500, and for some reason, its so sharp wide open!

Third pic shows Salina in front of Latte Stones (latte stones is unique to the Marianas), all pictures taken on Guam.

Link to our youtube video if anyone is interested:

Subject softness is caused by excessive smoke. Ask her to stop smoking.
