After being on my 105mm 1.4E high for a couple months (forcing shots that didn't quite make sense at 105), I've found my way back to my trusty 58mm. Some images from a recent session:
If you're interested, check out the full blog post here. Includes shots using the 58mm 1.4G, Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art, 20mm 1.8G, and the 105mm 2.8G Micro for the ring shot.

In fact, I try to use a wider lens than 58G to get more scene in the frame.
I'm in a process of selling the 28G for a 35mm f/1.4G...
. I know the feeling. For the longest time I was thinking about unloading my 35 for the 28G (I have a 20mm for super wide). But I actually ended up using the 35 art for a lot of the session. Am thinking about the 35G tho, just for the weight. Also curious about the 24G..

The 35mm f/1,4G is not light... It's 601g vs 35A which is 665g.
If you want to go light, go with the 35mm f/1.8G which is only 305g, a mere half of the 35mm f/1.4G version.

I've just bought this lens from a fellow FM'er after browsing this thread for awhile. Took a few shots this weekend with my 15 months toddler and I'm really liking what I see, all shot at F1.4.

I have the 28g. I've used the 35 1.4g .. I keep the 35Art. The 35g was a slow focuser for me. The art is fast enough so that it isn't an issue and the images are fantastic... its cheaper too
It does focus a bit slower than my 85mm 1.8g and sigma 35mm art. But at f1.4, it is more accurate than the sigma. With the sigma, after numerous attempts at fine tuning with the usb adapter, I still can't trust it when shooting wide open. With my limited time with the 58G, I have no issue using it wide open in my D600, after AF fine tuning it.
I'm used to fast lenses, my 200mm F2, and relatively slow focusing lenses, my 85mm 1.4G, but for some reason my 58mm 1.4 racking focus yesterday was jarringly slow.
I noticed when I was AF fine tuning the lens using a ruler or something with text, it was difficult for me to determine the exactly position of the focus plane when reviewing the test images. The text in the area in front and behind the focus plane was slowly being blurred out but can still be easily readable. In my other fast lenses, it was very easy as the area immediately in front or behind the focus plane would quickly blurred out and unreadable. Maybe this causes the AF system a harder (longer) time to determine focus.

Agreed. At f/1.4 it is not so easy, but also do test it at f/2.0 and 2.8 as there is a focus shift to the back. I have set at f/1.4 for the middle, but at f/2.8 there is a focus shift where the DOF still captures in focus more to the front and middle focus point has moved back somewhat
