Agreed. At f/1.4 it is not so easy, but also do test it at f/2.0 and 2.8 as there is a focus shift to the back. I have set at f/1.4 for the middle, but at f/2.8 there is a focus shift where the DOF still captures in focus more to the front and middle focus point has moved back somewhat
Mine is stuck at f/1.4 Are you saying at f/2 and smaller, the the lens is more likely to cause back focus issues? My lens is currently front focus with my D600 and needs a +15 AF adjustment. Maybe I'll reduce the adjustment a bit since the area behind the focus zone is still fairly sharp.

Elijah, when you get the 35mm 1.4G, are you still gonna pair it with the 58mm?
I'm rolling with 35 1.4/58 1.4/180 2.8, but I'm considering switching back to 35/85 instead of 35/58. Thoughts?
35mm f/1.4G is coming in tomorrow.
I'm definitely pairing the 35G with 58G.
In fact, I will probably use this pair for 80% of my wedding workflow.
There's no way I'll ever buy an 85mm again, that's for sure.
Especially now that there's a longer & better version of it, which I happen to have: 105mm f/1.4E

Mine is usually stuck at f/1.4 unless it is a group shot. Just also check the calibration at f/2 and 2.8 as it may need a minor adjustment/tweak to have the full range from f/1.4 to 2.8. Above f/2.8 the DOF is more than enough at least on my copy
Thanks, Elijah. But you don't feel 35 and 58 are too close in FL spread? I'm still back and forth on this issue. And since 35 is my "main" FL, perhaps 85 is a better compliment after all. Hmm, still undecided.

They are close, I agree. But they are probably my favorite focal lengths. To each his own
I am getting into the bokeh circle. I did similar shot with 55/1.2 and yes, it shows over 50 years of engineering. No hard edge. I like them both but interesting.
D700 @1.4
This shot did not turn out so interestin. It appears, that I might like front bokeh of 55/1.2 a little better, and 55/1.2 is SO hazy, that adds the hauted NYSE look, which I loved, but this shot is a bit too clean. anyway, it just shows to me I love them both, and for different purpose.
