To fellow 58G lovers here:
If you haven't seen this post on DPreview, someone has masterfully (in my opinion) performed a scientific bokeh measurement between the 58G and the 85 1.4G (the two affordable cream machines from Nikon) and shared the finding with everyone.
It is very interesting I find!

Thanks suhsin.
Marianne's posts are some of the most insightful and useful on dpreview so I'm glad she's taken the time to examine some of the 58G's attributes.
glad you like it! After a deeper look at all the photos i took there it looks like i have missed the f/1.6 version. The difference is not so big in my opinion. Anyway, here it is
First edit from an outdoor family shoot today with Jess, Tom and Riley. The processsing is a bit of a departure from my usual, so I'd appreciate any feedback (good or bad):
D800 1/3200 100 ISO f/1.4 600Ws strobe camera right in a 40" collapsible beaty dish with diffuser (it looks like a shallow Octa)

Nice compostition and I like the overall "bleached" look, but IMHO on the skin it's a bit too strong, at least on my screen the skin "radiates white light" which makes the people look too pale. Hope that's ok as C&C.

Thanks Markus, appreciate the comments. I did openly invite critique! Compared to the other shots from today, I think that it's probably a little overcooked. I'll make some tweaks and repost it.
Which ND filter are you all using for wide open out-of-doors daytime shots? Df caps out at 1/4000s and I live on the face of the sun. I have some 77mm filters but the step up ring prevents use of the lens hood. B+W 3 stop?

Mine's a 72mm Kenko "SMART ND8 SLIM". Seems to be pretty neutral to the colours, though I'll be able to tell more closely when I've finished today's edits and I've worked out in which shots it was used. I gave up with rings as they always seem to get stuck and I always prefer to use the hood (not a cheap option though!)
