Might as well rebuy the 200mm F/2 VR while your at it, I know you miss it.
Yep, that will be next. I'm actually rebuilding my old kit (20 1.8G, 28 1.8G, 58, and 200/2) Saving up for the VR2 version..

Thanks Corey!
Anyways, I haven't followed the thread much. Has Jason Brook been posting at all? I know Lowell is lurking.

Jason has definitely been slackin' lately.
I think the reason why you're getting AF lenses back is because your daughter is growing up...
She's too fast for your MF lenses, you can't keep up with the focus
Anyways, here's my share for today. (I posted a similar shot recently)
I still have some MF glass and will continue to shoot with them. The Noct has an amazing rendering, but the problem is that it's very difficult to nail perfect focus. For the most part I had to do a LV, magnify, then focus and compose, which got old really quick. I've been throwing away some otherwise fantastic photos because they're OOF. That's why I always laugh when I read posts that criticize the 58G's accuracy. They have no idea how good they have it!
The other reason is the psychological part. It freaks me out that I have a $4K glass hanging in front of my Df

But please dont ask me why i did that at f/2.2.. i guess it would be even more special at f/1.4
Did you maxed out your shutter speed? f1.4 at the beach and I'm usually hitting the 1/8000 limit but then again I'm still on a D700 so my base ISO is 200.
Anyways that's a great new way to use the 58G. The panorama almost gives it a miniaturisation feel to it.

My 58 sports a 3-stop ND on sunny days to shoot it wide open

Do you find it too dark in the VF with the 3-stopper ND?
I use a 2-stop ND for shooting wide open in the sun, and it works just fine, the VF doesn't get too dark, AF is no problem. I guess with a 3-stop it'll be the same.
