This this announcement is interesting! Although i dont think that the optical design goals are similar to the 58mm. Even if it will be awesome (maybe somewhere near a Zeiss 135 2.0?), is still have a awesome 58mm and a awesome 200mm 2.0. With three awesome Lenses i would always have the dilemma which one to use

God I hope Nikon favors rendering with the 105 1.4 lens design!
+1! I hope it has swirly bokeh. Joking-I really like the 105mm focal length, so I'm curious to see what Nikon cooked up, as rendering-wise it'll have to compete with the already great 58, 85 and 200mm options they offer for portraits.
Like others, I'm super excited about the 105/1.4.
Should pair nicely with the 58G. Initially I'd hoped for a 135 but 105 @ 1.4 is even nicer IMO.
A new 28mm f1.4 that also favours rendering and I'll have my personal trinity.
Can anyone tell me why Tanari's images don't show up on my computer (MacBookPro/Safari)? It doesn't seem to a browser issue as using Firefox doesn't make any better.
All other images are properly displayed but, for some reason, all Tanari's images have a '?' icon.
Thanks for any insight.

Guys, this is serious business... biggest decision of my photography life. But after the 105/1.4 rumors... Man, this is tough.
They should've announced it a year from now so you would've switched by then
Why would you want to switch systems at this point? I've been around since the D70 days and there has never been a better time to shoot Nikon than right now. Other than a new 135, we pretty much have everything now.

The 105 FL is Nikon's forte. Historically, there has never been a bad Nikon 105.... From the 105 2.5 AIS to the 105 Micro to the 105 DC, they're all great rendering lenses. The new 105 1.4 with modern design will be amazing.
For the first time in my life, I've pre-ordered a new Nikon lens. Despite its £2049 price tag here in the UK (The 70-200 is ONLY £1799), I'm going for the 105mm f/1.4E. From the few sample images I've seen, it looks spectacular. Despite the 85mm f/1.4 rendering beautifully, I find that focal length a little too short with tight portraits.
