Shot a wedding this weekend and in the hussle and bussle my 58 fell out of my arms and onto the lovely concrete. Has nice battle damage on the front barrel. the Lens hood was NOT on. I thought for sure the lens would be destroyed..
I then saw the glass was ok, it did not rattle and put it on and thought for sure it would be soft or not focus... so i took a few shots @ 1.4 in low light high ISO with lo contrast to test out the AF abilities and it still was sharp at various points..
Guess i really got lucky with that one I was fully prepared to throw on the 50 1.4 ART as I carry it as a backup for just in case. It does have nice battle damge ...Show more →
been busy but have more images still going strong even after being dropped on concrete.
Have been photographing this little one since her newborn session. She has changed so very much not only physically from her cleft pallet surgeries but also in personality. She use to be so shy and timid but man has she ever come out of her shell and is so much fun to photograph. There was too many good ones to choose from so it was hard to cull and scrap the rest away :/

Stunning work Shawn! What a little sweetheart. Great job capturing the light and maximizing the effect of the 58mm!
thanks a lot! I wish I could get more swirl but it seems that the way I photograph with this lens and where I place my subject to background distances seems to be very consistent thus no swirl :/

Those are awesome Shawn.
I really wish our little one wasn't in a turn and run away from the camera phase
thanks Jason, how old are they? When I photograph clients kids I have had that a lot. I make my sessions 1.5 hours specifically for this. I use 30 min max to play with the child, get to know them, be silly and run around looking like a total weirdo to adults lol. I usually have the parents around but let them know to not really interfere. Let the kid have some time to open up and be them selves with out feeling like someone is telling them what to do. i will go to various places and pick up something and ask them questions see if they like it like flowers, rocks etc... if they are older I try to ask them pop culture questions or school/tv/video game stuff so that they feel less threatened by me.
now with MY kid well lol that's a different story. i dont really ever get the same type of pictures of him that i do of my clients. my kid is always jumping on me or trying to play with me so I have to photograph him differently. I usually have good luck planning my sessions around after kids naps so that they are really fresh and into it, not cranky.
in general its always a crap shoot with kids anyways.
3.5 and 1 month. Aimee is little miss attitude with the camera these days; "No daddy, don't take my picture!!!" She'll hide her face, dive into the couch, or run in circles.

you are going to have to make it fun and interesting for her. Shes used to you snapping away around the house so its not fun to her anymore or as much as it used to but plan something fun like princess photo session or diva photo session or choose a favorite show or book she likes and have her dress up as that character or playing with them... something to make it fun where she doesnt care that the camera is out. then photograph her while shes doing it. I have had to do that for someone elses kid and we did a tea party setup and I just snapped away.
Someone got a new princess dress today. She's such a goof; good mix of girly girl and tom boy. She was out in the soybean field with her wagon collecting walnuts right after these were taken
Just got my lens today. Seems pretty sharp to me. I shot a few of my son at his guitar lesson and particularly liked this one: guitar-4 by Thomas Vaclavek, on Flickr
