ok, so the results from that test that you get at smaller apertures are bad. How do shots look in real life? I've never used software like that before and what you are saying isn't comprehending for me. I can imagine shifts at different focusing distances, but not different apertures.
I haven't shot the lens for very long, but its sharpens up nicely even just a little this side of WO.
That DOF is killer and you are probably right in some cases. That one night, though, things got dicey and I'm pretty sure its more motion blur and high ISO noise.
No motion blur in the cake shot. That was at 1/250. AF just got tricked and jumped from the candle tips to the top of the cake a little behind.
The second shot is motion blur. (edit: maybe a little of both. I'm over these photos)
That being said, I may not have dialed in AF fine tune in for various distances and temperatures. With a little more experimenting I've decided it may be slightly better on average at +8 to +10. Time will tell. I kinda can't wait for mirrorless to get better so that I don't have a month+ of adjusting every time I buy a new lens or camera.
I think it would be plain stupid to buy this lens for landscapes.
1) it's not wide enough for landscapes
2) defeats the purpose of 1.4
3) defeats the purpose of a specialty lens as well as bokeh rendering
You could do better with Nikon's cheapest prime, the 50mm f/1.8G (if you're into 50mm focal length for landscapes)

I just got mine. It's a wild lens. All I've shot so far is screws, bricks, trees, weeds, bottles. It's been heavy raining. The rendering is like a renaissance painting, it just has a vibe. It's not sharp, but I think it's definitely sharp enough.
