Never? Wouldn't that depend on the high ISO performance of the two camera's?
I suppose it could be possible if the high ISO performance of a higher megapixel sensor could be really bad. But to date, when higher pixel density cameras have been released as competitive products they have usually been adequate to the task. Certainly in the current context of an A7r, I haven't seen anything to this point that would lead me to believe otherwise.

I've been following the sales chart of compact camera systems on Amazon US. Looks like the Sony A7 and A7R are not doing too well relative to Oly EM1, Canon EOS-M, Panny G-series and Sony NEX. To put this in perspective, when the Nikon D800/D600, Canon 5D3/6D were launched, they did VERY well in the DSLR sections. Currently, the 6D and 5D3 are still in the top 20.
In short, the Sony A7/A7R is only appealing to a very small group of people.

Or maybe they are in a very limited supply and are just making it to the shelves...thus low actual sales figures. How many 5d3's did Canon sell the 1st month after announcement. Let me help you out....ZERO.

oh yeah that's a good conclusion based on your "research"

Wrong. Amazon includes pre-order sales. That's why D800 was the no. 1 selling DSLR immediately after announcement, way before the camera was made available.
Another thing: the A7R was very high up on the chart (I believe 5th position) immediately after release. But it's been going downhill since.

Hi Michael,
Frankly, I don't like the rendered colors that much... It is a tad too yellowish for my taste and the last one is a tad greenish yellow to my eyes but I realize that color preferences do vary and we are not going after the color rendition in PP. And the eyelashes are a tad soft for my taste coming from a 36MP sensor . No offense to the photographer but the point I am trying to make is, are there actually images taken with the A7r that you don't like or do you like them all ?
Hi Joshua,
It's not easy to judge the AWB since we don't know the mixing ambient lights when he took the set. Camera tones curves might be overset per picture style engine, etc..... But so far, AWB of most Flickr test images seem spot on in all light conditions. I like A7r sample texture and color tones, its files seem easy to work in post.

How do we evaluate colour and AWB when we don't have side by side comparisons with other cameras? They look good so far, but I don't think I'd be able to say they look better than Nikon or Sony or Leica without a direct comparison.

+1. Joshua, have you check AWB of these two set yet:

I think it's safe to assume when we talk about comparing mp we are talking about comparing sensors of equivalent dimensions (in this case 24x36mm).

I don't buy cameras because of their popularity. I always pick and choose the specific needs for my work. Maybe that's why I still shoot 1Ds2 and 5D2 since nothing out there really helps me doing things better than my cams

From my actual use the A7r AWB is a bit warmer than Canon's, so far so good

If the weather this weekend is good I will go out to make an AB test between A7r and 1Dx, with the TSE24 on tripod, with direct raw to jpeg from lightroom and upload to Flickr in full size for share.
