Don't feel bad. I ordered mine with deposit back on Aug 4th based on the rumor. I am first on the list and the the ETA is Nov 29th. Ordering an hour after the announcement will not put you some where near the in front because I think a lot of ppl ordered ahead of the announcement. shelt wrote:
hhhmmm. I preordered an a7r on Amazon (US) one hour after the announcement Oct 15. It has said "December 1" all along. My preorder details now say "We are experiencing a delay with your order. It will arrive after December 25th". WTF!?

Guess the US isn't getting a flood of these like some of us had hoped. At least there are no known disruptions to production capacity like there were for the NEX-7

Anybody in the USA or Canada hear anything from their dealers?
I've been checking weekly with a source at Sony Canada - today I'm informed product is now in the main warehouse (assume this is in Toronto); I'm expecting to take delivery of part of my order (namely the a7r body, FE35) this week in Vancouver and my contact seems to think this will play out. Whatever, I can wait... but I bet by the time it arrives the nice weather we've been having here in Vancouver will be long gone.
From what I'm hearing unless customers had pre-orders in, in Canada new prospective buyers wanting the product will be waiting in line for a while yet.

in the past amazon has been one of the slowest to ship preorders on cameras if i remember correctly.

I think that has been true, but they seem to have a better relationship with Sony lately - not that it seems to have helped in this case. Maybe my other preorder (B&H) will come through

Sony has advised the A7R is expected this week, but no absolute commitment was made.
In the meantime I did pick up the 35mm f2.8 FE and am playing with it on my NEX-6. It's surprisingly light and as expected very sharp, but the proof of the pudding will be when it is on a FF sensor.
cheers

....along with the 35 FE, both are still in stock. My A7r is on its way to Tromsų. Some A7“s were received as well but all seem to have been pre-ordered. The 55 FE which had an estimated delivery before christmas is now expected to be delivered Feb 1st.
That squares with my Australian experience. The 55 FE was promised for mid-December but, when I picked up my A7R and 35 FE a couple of days ago, they told me that 55 FE ship date had slipped to late January.

I've been hesitating to place my order not knowing how quickly Sony will be able to meet the demand for this camera. I'd love to order now, but I'll be on vacation in a month and I don't want it being delivered when I'm away.
It took quite a while for Nikon to produce enough D800s to fill all those orders and pre-orders last year, but I'm guessing Sony has a bit better production facilities and may be able to supply the demand quicker.

And then I think about your Mayor and I wake up from my daydream.
Some people have all the luck, meaning you - living in Vancouver you have great scenery, mild winters, short distances to fantastic skiing, access to the Pacific and less obtusive mayors and what do we Torontonians have -

Well you could have had Marion Barry (former Washington DC Mayor) as your Mayor.

Rich
Curious; do you really think Marion Barry would like to associate and be in the same room as Rob Ford
Sorry, we're getting way off topic now
Cheers

Rob Ford would have to first go to prison, get out and get re-elected before associating with Marion Barry. But we digress . . .

miklar, I find myself wishing, unusually, that I lived in Toronto right now, just to get the camera a day or so sooner, silly as that is.

Jeff, with all due respect, a couple of off topic posts are not indicative of the end of the world being nigh. there are a good number of contributors to this thread posting new information on a regular basis, so perhaps we can be given a break once in awhile if somehow a tangent creeps in...
