I don't understand Sony and Australia.
Their cameras seem to cost the same here as the USA, I bought the RX! and RX100 at prices that were comparable. I just put in an order here for the A7R at a major department store with a 20% discount, from 2499 to 2004 dollars. That price includes the adapter, that would normally cost around 500 dollars locally.
They have bizzare pricing for their laptops. Some are the same as the USA but others have a 60% price markup. Weird company
I agree. We're used to being overcharged by Apple/Adobe/Microsoft etc but the A7 series pricing in Australia is comparable to US prices (i.e. no Down Under Tax) plus we get an adapter such as the Canon EF Lens to Sony NEX Smart Adapter Mark III that would cost about US$430/AU$470 (including shipping) whether you bought it locally or directly from Metabones.

Prices in Aust are strongly influenced by the price structures of the mainly Hong Kong dealers, with whom I have had always excellent service and of course prices. NO GST remember, free trade. The local company presence resembles Centrelink - no one knows anything. The adapter offer is a great bonus, and Sony videos from Aust have been a great help when the camera was released.

Hi Dovey, where did you buy your camera from? Thanks.

The only activity I've seen is a temporary authorization on my credit card for $1 on November 19th. I assume they're getting ready to start shipping but haven't heard otherwise.

My local photo store in Oslo received 14 Sony A7R last week.
....along with the 35 FE, both are still in stock. My A7r is on its way to Tromsø. Some A7´s were received as well but all seem to have been pre-ordered. The 55 FE which had an estimated delivery before christmas is now expected to be delivered Feb 1st.

My local shop received over 1000 bodies. When I requested one they said they were all preordered with deposit. This is how popular this camera is.
Yikes. That is a lot of camera bodies for 1 store. I wonder how many cameras stores like B&H and Adorama ordered. In B&H's case they only did an authorization on our credit cards for our Pre-orders. Those charges drop off until the final charge prior to shipment. So, I wonder how long it will before those of us that Pre-ordered at these big stores will see confirmation on shipment.

Not a rangefinder lens... but is there anyone having seen how much of the sensor is covered by the Voigtländer Nokton 42.5mm f0.95 with NEX mount?
As that's a micro four-thirds lens, probably not much. And it's not NEX-mount.

hhhmmm. I preordered an a7r on Amazon (US) one hour after the announcement Oct 15. It has said "December 1" all along. My preorder details now say "We are experiencing a delay with your order. It will arrive after December 25th". WTF!?

I know it was first released for µ4/3 cameras but is since some time also sold for Nex cameras with an E-mount.Here is a German dealer having it in stock.
EDIT: I'm not seriously considering the lens. I would without a doubt buy the 35/1.2 but it would be interesting to see how the 42.5mm lens acts with a FF sensor.

My order in the US is marked as "released on November 30th" so I don't think there's any hope for a delivery before Thursday… sorry snowboarder
Edit: Just checked again and it's now marked as "Status not available"… hope that's a place holder for "Preparing for shipment"
my sony.com order has been sitting on "preparing for shipment" for at least one week... means nothing
