How are you liking the 75P?

It's great. I wasn't sure what to think at release, but it's one of my favorite lenses. I got it to fill a gap until the new 120mm arrives. I was originally planning on the 80mm, but I knew the weight would limit its use once the novelty wore off, and the 90mm 2.5 was too hard to find and not quite right for me.

Nice. It's definitely a great little lens, but it usually ends up being a tad long for me. I need to try and take it out more often.

Looking for ways to use my Hasselblad... from a state beach that occasionally offers interesting landscapes.

I really enjoyed these explorations, Bruce, with your unique perspective and the second exposure choices to highlight the trees' texture. Brings back great memories surfing Año Nuevo and Carmel, or further north in Mendocino or Gualala, but I can't place the cliffs with the pillared homes in the background. Thanks for sharing

Thank you Kalani for commenting...
First... on the camera and photography: I am absolutely loving the files from the X1D 50C. I know that my camera is old by digital standards, but the quality of the files are so rich and filled with details. While I have been using the Z9, Z8, and other high resolution FX cameras for many years, there is something about the extra "real estate" in the medium format cameras that make a definite difference. In addition, with a camera that is slow to operate, I am spending time thinking about framing and format much like I once did with my long-gone Hassy 500C and Pentax 645 medium format film cameras. In fact, I am so smitten on the camera and format, that I'm contemplating trading my Leica M10 and 35mm color-skopar for a second X1D 50C (or X1D ii) w/ lens... If there any takers out there... send me a pm

Regarding the location, well I live between Santa Cruz and Monterey, so you have the general location correct. The photo was taken from New Brighton beach. To the left is the town of Aptos and to the right is Capitola. I have another image of where the cliff meets the ocean and you can see throngs of surfers in the distance... I'll post that one later today.

Wind gusts at 30-35 mph this afternoon and the clouds were moving fast. So, loaded a 10-stop ND and polarizer on the 32-64/4 and exposed for 2 minutes.

Really cool capture! Something to think about if you want to minimize diffraction, you could take several shorter shots with an aperture more towards the sweet spot and use Mean Averaging in Photoshop to achieve roughly the same effect, but with an overall improvement in sharpness and rendering.

Thanks Scott - I've done that before as well. But I just got some clip in filters (Kase) and wanted to test the waters. Sharpness in this image still came out OK and any diffraction adds to the surrealistic feel.

I’ve heard great stuff on the Kase filters, liking them?

They just arrived a couple of days ago and this was the first attempt at using them. So far, so good. They seem to fit and sit just above the sensor nicely. Kase includes a little suction tool to install and remove the filter. They also include a guitar pick which can be used instead of the suction tool.

Ah! I should have recognized Aptos and Capitola, but I've never seen it from this vantage point! We just moved from the Bay Area after grad school, and I cycled the Palo Alto, Skyline, Los Gatos, Capitola, Aptos, Eureka Canyon Road loop once in awhile (maybe 80 miles round trip), and surfed Santa Cruz often. The Hasselblad files really look amazing, full stop. Back in 2019, I agonized between Hasselblad and the Fuji GFX100 at launch, and still shoot the 100 today. I think Flash (Gordon) posts both Hasselblad and GFX travel shots, and they are so dangerous to me because I never considered having both systems until now! FM is a siren song... Hasselblad's pure focus on photography, calm simplicity in usage, and almost painterly results of every lens are very attractive as a travel kit and more attractive with a single 38v, to me of course, than the 100rf at this point.

Beautiful, the rendition is exactly as I would imagine it, complete with the cold, foggy, kelp (maybe men in grey suits) lineup I remember. Good thing there is bore tide surfing in Alaska! Thanks for posting, Bruce, beautiful work!

Thanks again for the comment and sharing your thoughts.
I grew up in CA and moved to MN in 1990 to go to graduate school. Almost 35 years and a long career later, I decided to move back to CA to pretend to be a fine art nature photographer in my 2nd (or maybe 3rd) life. As you clearly know, this is a really cool place to live, as it affords the opportunity to pursue both wildlife and landscape photography in a very subject rich environment.

I'm mostly a Nikon shooter, but found a Hasselblad X1D 50C w/ 45mm f3.5 lens at an amazing price (<$2000). The system is crazy expensive, but the small kit I have adds something different to my workflow.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of your photography from AK.

cheers,
bruce
