I hear you, but I think the RX1 puts even more pressure on Leica than usual. The X2 is overpriced compared to its aps-c competitors, but I can at least slightly understand the interest in purchasing that camera. If Leica makes a fixed lens camera that is both more expensive AND has a smaller sensor than the RX1, I think that will be an even tougher sell. We'll see.
Logically, I agree with you guys ( I'm not sure if logic works the same with Leica though ). If the Leica Mini is a fixed lens camera then is should address the RX1, so I'm thinking the following possibilities...
FF, Summilux 35/1.4 ASPH lens with AF (?) and add on EVF (lens could be 35, 40,or 50, but needs a 'LUX to better RX1)
FF, Summicron 35/2 ASPH lens with AF and integrated EVF (lens could be 35, 40 or 50 but needs an integrated EVF to better RX1)
That being said I'm not convinced that an M-mount body is not a possibility. I notice the ME isn't in the lineup, so how about...
FF, smaller body, M-mount, integrated EVF only ( please please!!!)
APS-H version of above
APS-C version of above
It seems we are pretty much all agreed that a APS-C camera with interchangeable lenses is hardly (on paper) a compelling proposition from Leica, and many of us would like to see what nobody else produces: an electronic-only compact FF camera.
However, if Leica see themselves as a truly luxury product, they shouldn't do it. Because, by being alone in a given market segment, you create demand that is not "in tune" with your luxo values. Unless the segment is so minuscule that it is by itself a restriction that keeps "unwanted" customers out. Such is their position with the M.
So an APS-C camera with interchangeable lenses it will be, then.

a full frame 35 summilux is 5 grand, and somehow I doubt that bolting it on a body or adding AF would drop its price by much
and then you'd have to pay for the body, leica doesnt usually give those away easily... ok maybe to Seal they do
doesnt look good, even with a 35 summicron (>$3k)
On the other hand even leica has managed to produce an affordable 40/f2 in the past.
Small and sweet.

Wasn't that 40mm actually made by Minolta? Or am I confusing it with something else...
Not very compact with that largish but slow zoom on the front. 70mm @ f6.4? Let's hope it's at peak performance wide open! This looks like a camera in search of a user to me.

70mm at 6.4..... I don't understand, and where does f/6.4 start?
As a company, I don't understand how you can put this camera out there expecting people to rush for it and make a profit. You're right, this camera doesn't fit any user but the few people that must have any and all Leica. And you can't make a profit off that select group. That being said, I don't see how they are making a profit off the X2 either.
Ugh, worse than I could have imagined. I guess the upside is that I do like the body design better than the X2, with the stepped top deck, rather than the X2's raised hotshoe area.
Who would buy this for the rumored 2450€? I guess it still makes more since than the Lunar, price-wise.

my understanding is that leica made the leica version of the lens for the CL and then licensed the design to minolta to make the rokkor version for the CLE.
Can you imagine that Leica are so out of touch with the market that they allocate resources, which they already have no excess of compared to Canikony, to such a lame project/product? The mind boggles.
