40mm equivalent is my guess. Perhaps 2.4 like the original Leica Minilux (which was an awesome lens, I had it) but hopefully faster.
Considering Ricoh had a 40/1.9 (equiv) patent not too long ago for APS-C. I am hoping it is a joint venture and that Ricoh will release one too, for $500 less.
If it were to use that 40/1.9 lens, I can't help thinking that Ricoh could release one for $1000 less and still make a decent profit.
40mm is at the far end of the accepted range of eq focal lengths for a fixed lens camera in this aspect ratio. Most have been the more accepted 35mm, and they could gain instant cred by giving it better image quality than the RX1.
I think APS-C is a mistake, there are too many users who like their Fujis and NEXs and can put very nice lenses on them for pretty affordable $$; new 'NEX7' soon too, and Fuji churns them out also.
It oughta be FF, EVF, not RF, the M240 sensor. Like the Sony approach, give people something really good for much less than 10 large.

i think you need to revisit the catalog of 35mm (film) fixed lens cameras. 40mm was one of if not the most popular focal length with plenty of 42mm and 45mm lens cameras as well (a few 38mm lenses too).
i really don't see the point of a 40mm aps-c fixed lens camera when they already have a 35mm aps-c fixed lens camera though. a FF competitor to the rx-1 would be nice though.
Both leicarumors and mirrorlessrumors are now reporting an apsc sensor with fixed zoom lens, maybe digilux 2 type of camera. One more week to the announcement...

You are probably right, I was just thinking out loud and reminiscing over the Leica Minilux.
A zoom lens? Well, I can't see how they would fit a fast-ish zoom lens in the APS-C format with any sort of useable range. It won't be a 24-85/2.8-4. It better not be a boring, slow 35-70, the most boring zoom lens of any kind.

Leica rumors also told the M10 was announced on 10 may.
The guy running leica rumors doesn't even use a leica himself but took a RX1 instead (:S, talk about apples and oranges)

With the X2 at $2000, and the RX1 at only $2800, that would be a pretty tough sale for all but the most diehard Leica fans.
The fact is that people with deep pockets are willing to pay 3 grands for a mediocre Leica over a SONY flagship. I think Hasselblad is following the path, too.

this is an adversity that leica is very used to

We'll see if Hasselblad actually sells any of those monsters!

I hear you, but I think the RX1 puts even more pressure on Leica than usual. The X2 is overpriced compared to its aps-c competitors, but I can at least slightly understand the interest in purchasing that camera. If Leica makes a fixed lens camera that is both more expensive AND has a smaller sensor than the RX1, I think that will be an even tougher sell. We'll see.
Much easier to make longer FL lenses also which can be faster, would push some makers towards designing more normal FL lenses (43mm is true normal).
But you lose all pretence to a wider AOV that way. Part of the RX1 magic is that it is effectively 32mm, and that is the 35mm (135) equivalent of very commonly used medium format focal lengths in a variety of aspect ratios (formats). For example, many people could afford only one Mamiya 7 lens and bought the 65mm.
