What about a M-mount EVF only mirrorless camera? Basically, a cheaper option for people who want to shoot Leica glass without adapting their lenses. I could see it being well received. High end CSC cameras are just emerging and it's a market that I could see working with Leica's philosophy.

that's the only logical explanation. But it's Leica, they've proven to be anti-logical...
If it's really a FF M-mount without the rage-finder, and it is what it's supposed to be, I'm buying two.
Maybe with all the "history" and "legacy" hamstringing the M, this will actually be a better camera? No vestigial rangefinder? No removing the baseplate to remove the friggin memory card? Ergonomics?

Also if it doesn't have a scrollable LV?
I don't think I can handle another bitch session about non-scrollable LV..... I could certainly see this camera (just speculation) appealing to many, many consumers. It's always great to see new products and hopefully new innovation.
I think Leica has all the incentives to introduce a FF mirrorless. When Sony introduces its FF Nex rumored in 2014, there will be very tough competition for the M especially that many adopters don't care much for the rangefinder. If it's really what I think, Leica would have scored big time.
if it is yet ANOTHER proprietary lens mount in APS-C, I see it as a flop.
if it's some kind of neato MFT, it might be half decent, but it'll have an outdated sensor and inflated price.
i think it'll be something like the X100.

My info says it is a interchangeable lens APS-C camera. But I don't know whether mirrorless or other system
In this case, why would I buy this one and not a Nex 7 or X-Pro1? They both take M glass.
If this is true, the camera is doomed to fail. However, if it is FF, Leica would have found another use for its new CMOS sensor, would have intercepted and countered the Nex 9 way ahead, and created one more platform to use the M glass fully (pun unintended )

You have probably named two of the worst cameras with regard to color vignetting/ smearing with wide M's. That reason alone might be enough should Leica release an APS based camera with a more compatible sensor.

I'm thinking along the same lines. They cannot compete with Sony and Fuji in the DX sensor arena. But there are a ton of people with M-mount glass that have been adapting these lenses to various cameras, waiting for a live-view FX sensor M-mount camera that plays well with the glass. Leica has done all of the necessary work with the M-240 sensor, electronics, and software implementation. It's seemingly a no -brainer to just stick it in a body designed without an RF mechanism, and sell it for a couple grand less. It's one of the only voids left in the market. If they can gobble it up before a Sony FX mirrorless camera comes out, they may sell some more lenses that way too.
I hear the cannibalization argument a lot. No dedicated Leica shooter would choose an EVF camera over a proper rangefinder. But this could bring many others on the edge into the Leica fold, like me

With a Leica price tag.
If the rumors are correct, the updated Nex 7 will loose the AA filter, and GXR-M has absolutely no smearing/color shifts even with the the ZM 18.
Would you buy a AAless Nex 7 with little smearing for 1000$ or a mini-Leica with no smearing for 4000$?

I will add to the above that many M owners would get the cheaper mini as a back up body.

I'm thinking it will be a small package, FF, and fixed lens.
This is the only possible answer . Jumping ahead, I imagine it'll be a 'slower' lens, below par AF, and even more expensive than the RX1. The x1/x2 re both 2.8, you'd hope if they were going for something 'better' they'd make it faster than that.

None of the above The GXR is pretty much discontinued and the next NEX-7 is nowhere to be seen yet. The only thing that would really get my attention is another FF option.

Me too, and I'm waiting for one, whether from Leica, Sony, or whomever releases one first, gets my money.
and mine and many other.
This is the last shot Leica has to make a hit, they have the sensor designed to work well with M lenses
which is the key. Everything else (EVF, LCD, electronics) they might purchase from Sony for $29.99
If this is a crop camera, I agree there is no reason to buy it over a new NEX with fixed edges
or anything really. Even NEX-5n will be probably a better choice.
