Jefferson, I also like watching those birds fly high up......they do have a very stately looking flight manner. Their broad and long wings means that they do not have to flap frantically like ducks do.

Jefferson, that would have been too far for just about any lens, I think.
Either way, it could be argued that your photographs have achieved one of their their goals because they made me think about those magnificent birds cruising thru vast expanses of the sky.

Here is one of my first Bearded Iris bloom for the spring season!! I am so excited to share.

on another note...Peter...soo happy the monopod seems to work awesome for you! The last shot on page7...amazing, just shines with personality...love it. And so sharp, with contrast spot on.

5DIII-135mm 20mm tube(kenko) tripod at 2.0 6 shots raw-stacked

Hey Terry, looks like a great job stacking those shots, seems really clean and allows the lovely background of the wide open 135. Well done!

I got to a local lake late this afternoon and tried my hand at birds. I used the 300/2.8 II with 2x III, the 17/4 TS-E and the 40/2.8 pancake.

Some flexible show-offs were out there today

Double crested cormorant?

Attitude!

Wanted to try birds with a 17 mm manual focus lens!

On the way home from the lake, I saw this Turkey buzzard in someone's front yard. I stopped, opened the trunk very quietly, and managed to get two sorta ok shots. Not a graceful wing position in the second shot, but maybe appropriately funny for the appearance of these lovable creatures.

Hungry?

Credit to the camera for keeping the focus on the head.

Good Morning!,

As the sun is rising through the treeline here, and with coffee in hand, viewing the latest postings are an additional treat.

Terry: Really nice work with the focus-stacking; something that I need to learn about and try. Your end results are stunning...

Peter: Looks like you are having guarded fun with the new head setup...beautiful image of the raptor on the "ready line".... It does take some time to get use to the feel compared to "fixed mount" directly to the foot mount. I have no doubt you will master it very quickly.

Jess: I enjoyed all your images, but the stand-out for me is the fowl with "Attitude"...

Jefferson: Nice flora bloom also; the 300mm f4 has been a work-horse for me around the fields with butterflies. Still looking for more signs of Spring here (hard frost covering everything right now)

Here are two from yesterday with the 5D MkII hiding behind the FD 500mm f4.5L (modified to EOS with the EdMika adapter).

Have a great day!

Edd

How about a Wood duck in the woods? It is very tough getting shots of these guys in my area because they don't have much human interaction.

Terry and Edd, happy to hear you like that killing pijun shot.

Terry's Iris is spectacularly good.....other than being obviously sharp, the veracity of colours is perfect.

Photon Jess continues with his high quality oeuvre, ostensibly making a foray into bird photography as well. His second Cormorant is perhaps better than many dedicated birders do.....looks like a framing material to me. The turkey in flight is good too.

Edd keeps doing wee birds with gusto, and that Purple finch is again as good as it gets, although the Chickadee is fine too.

15Bit's artistic approach shows on that maritime scene, deceptively simple, yet I think it's done in very good taste.

Mike Poole has made Canada proud with that DIF shot ......seldom seen done so well, from "Birds as art" to FM's own N&W forum. Extra points for not trying a common post processing method of turning the Woodie's colours into something that resembles an Amazonian parrot.

Roger's Hummer is done tastefully and sharply, and w/o excessive pp......a very fine shot, I think.

Jefferson's humorous and fresh shots bring a smile to my face......he seems to be doing Red tail hawk photography in a very determined way.......the bait is there, we just need to wait a bit for a hawk to pounce on the tree shark.

I will not describe to you my dislike of empty sky backgrounds and targets shot way up, but these pijuns do not follow posing directions very well, and one simply has to take what is given, and hope for better opportunities. So, it's just a snap.

From an early morning walk down a local hollow, just beginning to fill with early-spring wildflowers...
All of these were made with the 100L Macro, tripod mounted, remote release, live-view focus, etc.

Inspired by terry's ( i.e., bartik) stacked bearded iris, I made several series of exposures with stacking in mind; I think I'm going to be working with Helicon Focus for a few days - software isn't my strong suit...
Until then...
