I'm only a craftsman, but I honestly don't think I could lug around anything besides my 70-200mm f/2.8 II, 400mm f/2.8 II, and 800mm f/5.6! I've planned hard to get my bag & gear closet down to just those three lenses.
It would seem that by far the dominant group on FM are " hackers".....they seem to run the show on the Canon Gear Forum.
The " craftsman/artists" are one half in numbers compared to "hackers". I guess in that group we have members who might have just embarked on their dSLR journey such as Roger Cicala. In addition, we are likely to find people who have sharpened their photography focus onto the most essential lenses for their art or craft, and those people obviously refuse to join the lens race, and probably they do not need to either.
We do have a goodly number of " know-it-alls".....I guess they experience a sudden epiphany and an avalanche of photograhic knowledge once they reach about ten lens inventory.
Then, there are them " collectors". Those folks are few in numbers, and they generally do not hide the fact that their photographic priorities are not always in picture making. Collecting has its own raison d'etre. I, for one, am proud to be a "collector", although that designation is often used, or taken, in a denigrating fashion.
Lastly, there is the runaway crowd, the " demented" ones, perhaps not quite 12 of them (I question the sincerity of some poll inputs there), however, whatever they do with all those EF lenses, I hope it's legal and that they are having fun.
Since I'm in the middle of a move back to full frame.... I had to say know it all but will be a mere hacker when (if) I get around to listing some stuff. Now it's a good thing we ain't talking about bags to carry them in

Is there a 12-Step program available or is there no cure
Jerry, once you get them all, then the lens lust will probably dissipate, to be replaced by a vacuous sense of lacking photographic purpose. For it is the lens hunt which we tend to enjoy more than the fruits of the acquisition or the ownership.
BTW, I have just done a quick gear bag inventory......I've got about 20 bags, and about a half are used for lens storage at home. There are a few redundant ones, but not worth much on the resale market, thus I am keeping them.
Hacker bagger if you include hard cases, will be giving up a Kata soon, and a beloved Domke
Seems there's something fishy I must save for...my lens journey thus continues, must get at least to a point of no return

I am telling ya, Jerry, the lens is a delight......I have even shot butterflies with it.
Unfortunately, for some strange reason my family members object to their portrait pictures being taken with it.

Peter, family shys away when my macro comes out, with said fishy I'll terrorize once again, only this time in the round
Jerry, that is some choice they will have to make: do they want all of their skin pores to be shown (macro), or they prefer their faces to be distorted (FE) ?
Please stop talking about camera bags. I have heroically avoided that mania... but somewhere in the back of my mind, I know that the mere four that I have all suck --- and I don't want that conclusion to percolate into full consciousness, because I am already tumbling into enough bottomless pits of dementia.

Indeed Peter, excuse please...shall it be nose hairs or a proboscis like a elephant...dear
Smiling is a very good thing, thanks my friend

I hear you, Mendenhall......our quest for a perfect bag could get outta hand easily.

I'm part of this group right now, but lets be honest, craftsman/artists can merely be a very transitionally stage because 0 to 4 lenses is obvious never enough, Peter! And we all know it
But once in a while you need to sell off some to buy others, so one should look at craftsman/artists as a sort of pit stop, where you take a break to maybe realign your lens setup. Canon have waaaay to many lust-worthy lenses to not at least be a hacker longterm.

I was missing a "dilletant" level to chose, Peter.
Not dilettante, rather Supreme Zen Master, Ralph. Being able to keep the number lenses down to just two require some very strong self-constraint and self-discipline! The force I sense is very strong within you, Yoda-Ralph.
