I'm part of this group right now, but lets be honest, craftsman/artists can merely be a very transitionally stage because 0 to 4 lenses is obvious never enough, Peter! And we all know it
But once in a while you need to sell off some to buy others, so one should look at craftsman/artists as a sort of pit stop, where you take a break to maybe realign your lens setup. Canon have waaaay to many lust-worthy lenses to not at least be a hacker longterm.

Not dilettante, rather Supreme Zen Master, Ralph. Being able to keep the number lenses down to just two require some very strong self-constraint and self-discipline! The force I sense is very strong within you, Yoda-Ralph.
I tried Motorsports last year. A 100-400mm would have been great. I usually doen´t shoot macro, neither wildlife, nor sports. For the poor rest of it it seems to be very easy to me to get along with two good (great) lenses ranging from 24-200mm. Next to that I still own and use a 50 1.4 and a 100 2.8 L. Looks less like Yoda, more like Luke ...
Know-it-all here (but of course!), back from the point of no return after selling/giving up for adoption four EF(s) lenses. And I thought I was demented. Then again, I like to keep each lens on its dedicated body...
I reduced my lens count to four zooms when I changed from Olympus to Canon. When I started selling my Olympus system I found I had some really nice lenses that I hadn't used in over a year. I decided that was crazy and now all of my lenses get used every month at least.

True Beni. I started with 3 lenses years ago when I began to photograph weddings and portraits, ran it up to 10-12 and now use only 3 or 4 at a wedding and have 8 in my kit.
Would like to sell a few more, however, my reasonable fear of failure to cover a wedding or event, is overwhelmed by my shear paranoia. I will rent specials, mainly perspective control or micro lenses, for other commissioned work.
Tom, trick is to have an assistant/2nd shooter who can double you up for lenses, i.e. a canon shooter with a good collection
I managed to stay in "hacker" level by not counting lenses in my "I should sell these" collection. For example I have two 70-200 f4s, two 100 macros, and soon two 35 f2s and I need to sell the non IS versions. Until a rich uncle gives me a 500 f4 I think I can live with just the 8.

Jerry, once you get them all, then the lens lust will probably dissipate, to be replaced by a vacuous sense of lacking photographic purpose. For it is the lens hunt which we tend to enjoy more than the fruits of the acquisition or the ownership.

Unitl the new MKIIs and IIIs lenses are announced. :Then the race starts all over again. There is no end to it. Just think you started with a 400 F2.8 USM MKI then the 400 F2.8 USM MKII then the 400L F2.8 IS USM MKI then the 400 F2.8 IS USM MKII you may skip generations and sell off the old ones, and you may fool yourself that there is a cure, the problem is Canon mutates the virus and the cure is no longer useful you have been reinfected you need your fix of the latest greatest or with second hand previous generation. Either way you are in bad shape. There is no miracle cure you are addicted for life.

Ralph, are you planning a move to Wales?
A logical choice, I'd say: Ralph is returning to his ancestral estate, plus in Wales they speak an archaic version of the German language. "Zurueck zur Wales".
I have been there a couple of times. First, 2nd, 3rd and 5th time I had strange spiritual experiences. The forth time I nearly died. Wales is a great country with fantastic people I feel strong connected to, yes.
Here is a little pano: Conway from Conway mountain . - sorry about the bad quality. It was my first panorama test and I did not find the original.
And Peter: Nice try but it is "Zurück NACH Wales"
But this are different stories which have nothing to do with photographic gear.
