I think many of us have more lenses than what would be neccessary for effective practice of photography. I, for one, certainly do.
However, the question I have is: how bad is FM at being over-geared ?
One somewhat simplistic approach would be to see how many lenses we own.
The poll rules:
* Only lenses equipped with the Canon EF mount count, including third party ones (and ZE lenses as well).
* Teleconverters and extension tubes do not count.
* Only fully functioning lenses count.
* Lens duplicates count too.
Remeber, it's all in good fun.

I have some lenses to sell sometime, but of my main kit, I actually do use every single one... Some more than others of course.. And I have my favourites too
I own about 4.5 (I'm not sure my 50/1.8 II is working properly, and I haven't used it for ages). But I chose HACKER (rounding up...) Sure would love to add a couple lenses (and maybe have a couple go, but I suck at selling stuff as well).
Pro wedding shooter for 10 years, 3 lenses and wish I could get away with only two, if I wasn't so in love with primes then I would. As I said to my assistant last night, you get to a point where you want the least possible to do the job, makes life much easier. Heck I've got more speedlites than I have lenses!

Db.
Db, you obviously ought to know what's going on with your lens collecting, but as an outsider I think you might have reached a point of no return a long while ago.
Funny thread indeed . 13-19 category for me in regard to EF lenses. So far I kept all but one which I have bought, and I am using all of them with exception of the 18-55 kit lens. The only zoom lenses which I would still buy nowadays are my 70-200/4 IS and the 100-400. My nice 24-70/2.8 is more and more less used and replaced by good primes.
I currently have 5 lenses in my bag, however, only two of them are used the majority of the time. I go through a lot of lens exchanges where I will sell/trade lens for other lenses I lust for. The only two constants I count on in my bag are my 17-40 and 24-105. Although I'll probably keep the 40mm Pancake around since it's so compact, cheap, and sharp.

I'm still countin' - up to 3 so far I think. What comes after that?
I passed the point of no return some time ago - and knew it - but was surprised to learn from your poll that I'm very close to joining the Junior Collector club. I've scrupulously avoided counting TCs, etc., not to mention completely different camera systems with their lenses. The thing is, there are no remaining remotely "affordable" EF lenses of any interest to me...oh wait, I could consider the 35/2 IS...but then I'd have no excuse for keeping the original 35/2 (I have the 35L)...but I could exchange those 35s and then add the 40 pancake, which I hadn't gotten because I had the cheap, light 35/2...
Then when I get my 500/4 (in my dreams!) I'll be a "JC".
I know there's a way to get there!
I use to own 2 systems and at least 5 lens per system. Recently i downsized and now I own 3 lenses. A 35. 70-200 and 300. I rent the wides and 85 when I need them. I am probably going to pick up a wide soon as renting is inconvenient at times. I may add a 85 as well.

My setup is very similar 24, 70-200, and a long lens. I find with an extender the 24 turns into a very nice 35, the 70-200 can do a little macro with a 25 tube, and todays high ISO cameras help reduce the need for fast glass in the 70-200 range...

No matter what they say I've done, well I ain't never had too many lenses. Nice!
How about an alt last line: No matter what they say I've done, well I ain't never had too much fun!

There you go, Jess.....which would mean to me that you are still in control, and not piling up lenses (yet) unless there is some photographic purpose driving the acquisition.

True Beni. I started with 3 lenses years ago when I began to photograph weddings and portraits, ran it up to 10-12 and now use only 3 or 4 at a wedding and have 8 in my kit.
Would like to sell a few more, however, my reasonable fear of failure to cover a wedding or event, is overwhelmed by my shear paranoia. I will rent specials, mainly perspective control or micro lenses, for other commissioned work.
