Port Liberty Bayonne. Used a 6-stop ND to smooth out the choppy water, testing out a Neutral Night (light pollution) filter. This was an 11 minute exposure, cropped to 2.7:1.

My Mini Bernedoodle was running around and jumping on the ottoman, then sat for a split second pose - shot with the RX1R III. I’m loving this cam a lot more than I expected (given the missing features everyone is up in arms about)

I was kinda skeptical of being stuck in the 35mm focal range as I am primarily a portrait photographer and live in the 50mm and above focal range. But I gotta say I’m pretty impressed on how this 35mm renders portraits. This was a candid shot of myself taken by my wife in the wee hours of the morning (like 4 AM) at our local iHop. Since the restaurant was pretty much empty I thought I’d try the Godox iT32 mini flash. Super impressed with the amount of quality light this little flash puts out —combined with the X5 (a must) you can magnetically mount it on the camera or use it as an OCF — plus you can use it to trigger any of the Godox/Flashpoint lights in the ecosystem (only catch is that it can only trigger those other strobes via manual vs. TTL). This is a perfect flash pairing with the RX1R Cameras

Probably the thing I regret the most about my photography equipment was when I sold the Rx1r to finance other Sony equipment
that sonnar f2 is simply fantastic

Has anyone upgraded from the RX1RII to the RXRIII?
I have an A7RC but have missed the legit compact form factor of the RX1RII I had several years ago. A7RC doesn't quite get to that form factor even with Sigma 35i, which I think is great optically, but not as compact as the RX1. I travel about once a month to work and pack the a7rc+35i, but it never makes it into my day bag to shoot spontaneously as I'm out and about. A7rC doesn't have that shooting exeprience IMO.
I'd like to add an RX1 camera back into my life and there are two paths to getting there. Just grabbing a used RX1RII, or selling the a7rc and grabbing the RX1RIII. $5K is a hard pill to swallow.
I'll say that I never had issue with the RX1RII aside from the battery life, which I was able to deal with by having a 4 batteries on hand lol. Eye-AF on the RX1RII was more than fine for basically a lifestyle camera, and 42MP is more than adequate. I recall how great the optics of the 35 sonnar on the RX1rII.
Any other benefits to the RX1RIII vs the II that rationalize the cost? I realize as I typed this out that I might have talked myself into a used MKII, but would love to hear yalls thoughts.
I like the RX1 III better than RX1 II due to updated af...I doubt Chinese lenses will match the af except Sony 40mm. Again it depends on your use, eg RX II is still good for landscapes and has eye af, but I prefer RX1 III for animal / faster eye af which is similar to A7RC. I also use the Freewell wide angle and 1.5x converters with it. 1.5x converter has some vignetting for landscapes, but it is great for portraits. It gives you 24mm, 32mm, 48mm Sonnar in a small package. You can buy it used to save money eg Camerawest was selling a used RX1R III for $3600, but usually used ones are above $4K level...

Jumping down the rabbit hole of all the compact chinese primes that hit the market in past couple of years. I've been out of the camera GAS game for a bit even though I'm still shooting!
