I didn't think stabilization mattered much at 35. But my RX1RII shots at 1/125 on the street lack the same sharpness I get with my A7RII using the Voigtlander Nokton 35/1.2 II. I am talking about shots at f/5.6 or 8. My practice is to have the camera in my hand using a wrist strap and to quickly bring it up and capture a scene. Nearly every capture with my A7RII in this scenario is sharp, but many of my RX1RII captures are slightly blurry. Sure, people moving are going to have some potential blur at 1/125, but the background portions of the images are also not sharp. For example, I cannot read the text on this sign on the right at f/8 even at the full size (this is smaller for this forum):
This was much better, but these captures were rare (and the motorcycle was moving, so he's slightly blurry, but the background is sharp enough):
I think 1/160 is probably a better shutter speed for quicker captures using the RX1RII (and, this certainly varies depending on the person). But 1/125 is reserved for 35 on my A7RII.

More thoughts on the original RX1. The lens is unbelievable at all apertures. The lens is worth the cost of the camera, especially used! The flash is really quite useful and desirable. The EVF while not up to A7RII specs, is more than adequate to aid in focusing. The Clear Zoom in Fine JPG is excellent. Here are some samples.

There is a widely held belief that image stabilization is not needed for wide angle lenses. From my own experience, I can guarantee that this is wrong, even with a 28mm lens, and I have fairly steady hands. It is especially wrong for cameras with high MP sensors, because they are more sensitive to camera shake.

Agreed Rob. I love IBIS with a 21mm and 35mm, I get between 1-2 stops of stabilization which is huge for low light shooting. It's probably a pipe dream, but would love to see them keep the RX1 sonnar but add lens IS, and not bother body size. Give the RX1 has to move several elements to AF which slows it down, it would be great to see them rework the optics so a single element can move and the camera can AF faster. I think the lens is going to start being the limiting factor on AF speed on the RX1r3. I think it would save on puny battery a little too.

A couple more images with the original RX1. Nothing special, just testing the camera in different modes. I have determined that while the clear focus works quite well, it brings no advantage over severe cropping in normal aperture priority with a RAW file. These are both severe crops.

I wanted to get this shot a bit tighter, the Firin 20 was too much, the 28/2 was too much. So tried the RX1... fared pretty well to my eye. 5 shot stack at 10' exposure, ISO 1600.

I am hearing a lot about the new fixed lens Fuji X100-F and I keep looking at the images. I am not so sure they are equal to the images from the original RX1 which can be purchased used for less than the Fuji. Below is a middle of the day, nothing special, shot but I think it does demonstrate the native image quality of the full-frame Sony sensor.
