^^^^ Uh oh, somebody is going to get hooked on the RX1'screen Sonnar rendering! Enjoy!
You're spot on Wayne. I've owned two RX1's and two RX1r's if you go back about 100+ pages, I am on this thread. I just can't ever get a real replacement. The Minolta 85 1.4 limited and the RX1 are the only two lenses I always miss. Nothing really like them I've come across.

Yeah, I am enjoying my Otus 28 rendering/IQ but nothing beats the size and weight of RX1. Maybe you will pick up another copy?
Yeah, maybe wait a bit for markii prices to come down, of find a good deal on an rx1. The other two 35s I like are the CY 35 1.4 and zm 35 1.4, but couple those with body+adapter, your easily at twice the weight of the rx1--Sonnar rendering aside. So yes, it's in the cards
It's gets more tempting as Sony' is releasing bigger bodies and lenses...aging like wine that RX1

Like plenty of other folks, I've been pondering an RX1 or RX1R. If I could justify it, I'd be all over the Mk II. I'm currently trying the Fuji X100S, which is a bit of a mixed bag in terms of ergonomics and performance. The lens is sharp and well centered, but that's about it - lower contrast and prone to flare. I knew this going into it, based on the sample images. The EVF and MF experience leave a lot to be desired compared to my A7 and NEX-5R.
On the other hand, the RX1's lens always impresses.
I wish I had access to an RX1 to try out - it's hard to know if the AF and MF of the RX1 would cut it for me, or if it'd just be frustrating.

For those who have shot or may know, DXO shows the Rx1r as having less DR than the normal RX1.
Does anyone have any thoughts/explanations/debunks for this?
I have had both the RX1 and RX1r and I mentioned a number of times within the thread, that I preferred the look from the RX1 in spite of the AA filter over the RX1r at the time. It felt there was different PP within the camera, or slightly different sensor. If the main style was landscapes, then the RX1r would be better.

That said my choice now would be the RX1rII
Nice Charles!! I owned an RX1 and RX1r, but got rid of both RX1r's pretty quickly.
How do you find the Rx1rii in terms of IQ versus the RX1? Also, how good/bad is the AF in decent light? Esp for moving things

I wish I could say the same, but for my purposes, the loss of the built-in flash makes the RX1RII a non-starter for me.
The RX1 is my carry-everywhere camera and I often use its built-in flash to provide a tiny bit of fill light, especially when I photograph my dog while we're out walking:
Sure, I could carry a small flash with me as well, but honestly, it would be a major nuisance to do so and without it, there isn't much point to my carrying the camera around in the first place.
Unfortunately, it seems that I'm an outlier in the way I use cameras. Because every time a camera maker introduces the Mk II version of a camera that meets my needs well, they change it in at least one way that makes the new version wholly unsuitable for my purposes ... the list of specific examples I can site is a long one and I assure you that Sony is no exception to this rule.
