Wow, I just passed my 4 yr anniversary with my RX1 and still love its image quality and small size! Glad this thread has gone strong for 4yrs too! Cheers to all Sony RX1 (R/R2) owners here!

Agreed! I had the Mark 1 and now have the Mark 2 and despite a couple of quirks I know its the one camera I would never part with. Ive added the Zm 35 to my A7rII package but theres just something about the RX in its size, rendering and general wow factor to the files that I just love. The RX1 forum is a testiment to that

I had an original RX1 for about two years, but sold it well before I joined FM. I posted one post with some of my RX1 shots to this thread about 100 pages or so ago (https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1168684/187#12995508), but then largely disappeared from it, just checking in to see some of the great work here. Well, I just finally broke down and bought a slightly used RX1Rm2. Although I was more than happy enough with the 24mp sensor in the old one, the new one has a few features I really like, most critical for some of my shooting being the auto-ISO setup that they just added in recent models. If they'd ever retro-actively updated the firmware of the original (Fuji did that with some older models), I'd have just stuck with version 1, but that's not Sony's way, so now I have the new version with all of those excess mega-pickles.
So far, I've just done some quick, almost "practice" shooting to see how it handles different situations. And it passes all of them with flying colors. And while I'll need to buy a new hard-drive for all of these huge files, my 5 year old Mac actually did OK with the big files, slowing down a little bit on importing the raws, but really never choking on them too noticeably during editing...
Anyway, here are a handful of quick and dirty shots just playing around to see how the camera handles...

One question… What is the circles around the brigde in the first picture? Is it JPG compression? or Sony RAW compression? I do not see the circles in Lightroom, just when I export the picture to Photoshop (tif) or to JPG.
Wow, those circles are weird. I've never seen anything like that. It's almost like moire, but I doubt that is it. Hopefully someone can help you out. That's unacceptable to my eyes.

I occasionally suffer them as well, typically in areas with very smooth gradients, such as the sky in this photo:
As best I can tell, they're artifacts from the .jpg conversion process, because I do not see them when I view my files as 16-bit .tifs.
One solution is to dither them by adding some additional noise to the photo. But this forces one to pay a price elsewhere, either by creating a layer mask that includes just the sky -- potentially very time consuming -- or living with the additional noise where it isn't necessary or needed.
That said, I would love for somebody to prove me wrong about the cause of this or provide a better cure, because I usually end up tossing the photo when it occurs rather than trying to fix it, which is unfortunate.

I found a «fix» for the problem. Instead of the using the export to .jpg inside Lightroom, I used edit in Photoshop function in LR. I then used a web sharpener v1.0d script for resizeing the picture in Photoshop. The .jpg “circles” are now gone Cannot blame the camera, just the user…
I`m really happy so far with my “new” RX1r2. And I Just found a new feature that I have missed since I had a Pentax K5. I really like that they have implemented the ISO AUTO Min. SS function. I do not think this was implemented in the old RX1? But I might be wrong.
I hope to post more in this thread during the next year. I have always lurked around and admired all the pictures posted here! There is really something magical with the rendering of the RX1/2 cameras and of course it really helps with all the skilled photographers that post here!
Thanks for all the inspiration and a merry Christmas to all!

No, you're right. That's probably the biggest single reason I eventually sold my old RX1 (which I otherwise loved) and why I finally broke down and bought a new R2 version. That minimum SS feature in the auto-ISO setup is becoming standard practice among Nikon, Fuji, Sony, and others and I won't buy another camera that doesn't have it.

I finally got around to post processing some shots from Italy this past May. I regret selling my RX1RII after seeing some of there amazing detail that lens/body combo produces.

Beautiful shot. And one of my favorite spots on earth. Here's one taken from just to the right, up off the beach from where you were standing, about three and a half years ago. Also with the RX1, but the first version of the camera...

I agree this isn't a camera problem, but a post-processing problem. In any event, the fix you pointed out -- thanks! -- does appear to show some promise, although its default settings are a bit heavy-handed for my taste. Fortunately, it appears there are many ways to tweak them, so I'm optimistic!
Here's the after version using the default settings:
