Great shots John. Like you I'm trying to find a good compromise between portability and iq. My girls are younger than yours so space/weight is at an even bigger premium so I'm hoping this camera is able to meet my probably unrealistic demands. I have the a7rII now and love it but I find myself either carrying it around with the 55 or not at all. Having 95% of the a7rII in a small package (missing IBIS and 4K, but has the tilt screen and wifi) but paired to an exquisite lens sounds almost too good to be true.

I think youll find that it IS perfect. Since you have young ones, may I suggest a camera clip like the Peak Designs one. It works, perfectly, can be removed and secured with one hand and the best part, it never swings forward and hits your son or daughter in the back of the head when youre putting them down. My poor kids have perfect sized 35mm dents on the back of their heads.

Thanks for the input! I actually have the Peak Designs setup, the leash and cuff along with the capture clip. I think I have as many bags, straps, and other camera contraptions as my wife has shoes. Works much better with a smaller camera. I've had many instances of hitting a kid in the head while chasing after my daughter in a children's museum. d810+ 24-70 and hood is a weapon!

having a really hard time processing this to get the look i want (one that captures the fog and rain but also the vibrant colors). any opinions on which looks better:
I'm a little late to the game but I prefer the first one because the trees near the water looks over done in the second one. Actually I would have preferred a third option with roughly the lower part (tress and water) of #1 and the upper part of #2.
