I don't usually post much because I'm too intimidated, but my self confidence is growing….whether it should or not!
Something I got from the Steve (Whose blog i DO enjoy) is that the really high iso hi contrast shots have a very film look to them…. i'm going to experiment… i definitely feel that turning off all noise reduction in cam is the way to go, lightroom 4 cleans things up much better than sony
I don't have much time left to decide if i'm keeping this camera…. so i better get cracking

h00ligan, I hope you decide to keep the camera as I have really appreciated your images and comments, thank you for passing along the "look like film" tip
thank you, Charles, i very much enjoy your images.

I made what may be one of my best photos tonight - but due to a promise nobody will ever see it…. what a bummer.
So instead speaking of film I was experimenting more tonight… I don't have kids, I have the one eyed happy bringer… so here was grainy from cam but further developed from jpg
I'm not sure what's going on as I have reset the cam a few times, but the af seems to be working so much better now… it's really weird

At 6400and up it is very easy to enhance the film feel it seems. The noise characteristics when present at super high iso are not at all unpleasant and clean easily if not desired.

joanlv, nice shots. I'll take your TX winter anytime compared to up here in the Northeast
hooligan, very nice B&W shots at highISO. That self portrait looks great! So are you keeping the camera? I find the jpegs very good, but sometimes the skintones appear slightly yellowish with the default profile depending on the lighting conditions. I am shooting RAW 100% now but I agree, the jpegs are perfectly useable.

Joe, I am more pleased with the cam lately, however I am off put by the add on evf in form or cost! that said, I haven't seen good bw jpg results like this except maybe fuji x100
I have added some color checker profiles if you use camera raw, give them a try, between setting white balance manually (which i feel this camera needs regularly) and those - my colors are far better… i posted a link in the other thread, so to any who read it, apologies for the repeat. I have a few more to make so keep hold of the link if they work for you. This link should do it

I'm still waiting for my EVF. Its still out of stock everywhere and I agree its probably too expensive. The LCD on the camera is practically useless for me out in the sun, especially if I'm shooting stopped down at f/8 or more, I can;t see the small details at all.
Thanks for the profiles, I'll give it a try when I have some time. I normally use a grey card anyway if I need accurate colors and I like that I can save multiple custom WB profiles in this camera.

I find that the profiles greatly enrich the colors...much more natural.

Hooligan, like the B&W self portrait.
Charles, beautiful high iso shot of the wife.
Joan, keep shooting those interesting Texas "local water holes"
I'm sure there is plenty to photograph there even in winter.
congrats Jorge!
These are a few from the other day. Low light IQ of this lens and sensor is just amazing.
First one is a local birding spot at sunset.

-Joan, nice to see what Texas looks like in winter. Please share more!
-Hooligan, the photo of your wife peaking out is lovely. I like the high contrast and composition.
-Charles, I like the photo you took at the mall (woman on bench). It gets better the more you look at it, because of the things going on in the background adding to it.
-Wayne, nice, especially the last one from the bar. Great composition and atmosphere.
