Joe, Phil, Michael and Sebboh, thank you!
We pass that bridge a couple of times a year, but since days are very short in winter it's usually dark when we get there. This is the first time I have been lucky with the weather and light.

Blasphemy Helena!!
Looks like your really liking your RX1 - images look great - how do you like the handling?
He he! Well, yes, we'll see. I'll keep 5D, 24-105, 35L and 200/2.8L for now and sell the others. I doubt that I'll use 35L much, but resale value isn't very good at the moment because of the new Sigma, so I can just as well hang onto it. If I decide to keep the Canon system I'll probably upgrade to 6D when it has gone down in price.
I find the RX1 handling fine, but I'm probably not the best person to ask because I tend to be very adaptive and rarely get annoyed with cameras. AF is somewhat slow, but adequate for my use. Sometimes I do miss having a VF, but as a Christmas gift family has helped pay for an EVF, so I should get one soon.

A few shots from yesterday, all f/2 and ISO 6400 with no NR (first one has some motion blur and the lines in the upper right corner are tree branches):

Helena 2+3 are right up my alley! Very nice

you are probably much better at determining than I , look at last page and see one that was a conversion. I am not much good at PP, so these are close to SOOC, cropped joanlvh
I know some people here hate him but I found one year's subscription to kelby training gave me more knowledge that ten reading message boards. Given what we spend on gear, IMO it's worth it.
I have no affiliation but I do think Matt k. Is a great instructor and his lightroom a-z really helped me a ton and lessened my trips to photoshop which I knew better from graphic design days.

H00ligan, thanks for the tip, I will look into Kelby.
Charles K, you are right the rich blk and wt setting is very nice, here is one using it, shot thru moderate rain fall.
I would like to know about Sep II that you mentioned but my investigating is not turning up much.

Helena, excellent set of shots! Love the lighting and the mood in particular with #2
Joan, nice B&W capture. I suspect it is better to capture in RAW, and then convert in SEP II( Silver Effex Pro II from Nik via Lr or Ps6) to maximize the DR. I have not compared the rich B&W HDR setting Jpeg, as versus the RAW conversion.

Thank you Hooligan, Charles and Joe!
Joe, I too seem to use f/2 a lot. Your second photo is really nice!
Charles, wow, excellent set!
I wish I were there... We have nice weather (sun and -3C), but the trees are dark and bare and the ground covered in patches of dirty snow and ice.

Helena and Joe, thank you, much appreciated
Helena, yes we are experiencing somewhat of a heat wave throughout Australia, so a brief respite by the beach was very welcome. Hard to imagine sun and -3degC
Joe, I with you, the RX 1 is amazing, and really approaches IQ M9 in many areas, but no replacement...yet!! I am still finding faster to compose, focus and shoot with the M9, but this is probably just more practice needed with the RX1.

A most impressive camera, as assessed by 'apparent image quality'. I hope its release spawns more similar cameras from Sony and Zeiss. In particular the noise 'character' is very attractive for high ISO images.
