The front of the new 28/2 FE lens, with 49mm thread size, looks pretty identical to the front of the 35/2 Sonnar on the RX1(r), right down to the same position for the bayonet hood attachment.
I think this bodes well for the 0.75x wide angle and fisheye conversion lens (designed for the 28/2 FE) working, or at least being able to fit, on the 35 Sonnar.
It could be argued that if you want more focal lengths the RX1 is the "wrong" camera to carry, but, these things look to have a price point around $300, and if they are optically pretty decent, I could buying one, if not both, just for some fun.
Given the 35 Sonnar is actually closer to about 32mm, with the wide angle conversion lens that could give us about a 24mm FoV, which is pretty exciting to me.
Likewise, I've never been a huge FE fan, but they are pretty fun when shooting certain subjects. I usually don't use one enough to justify spending $700 or so to get one for my FF systems, but if the Sony conversion one works decent for $300, that could provide some good bang for the buck in my mind.
Guess I'll have to order them when available and report back on what I find. I've actually used my Ricoh Gw3 conversion lens which works surprisingly well stopped down, however, I found that given I needed f8 or f11 it simply was too limiting to really make it worth carrying. If the Sony ones can provide at least decent edges wide open, or maybe at f2.8/f4, I think they might end up selling a number of them to RX1 owners

Loving everything seen here.
If you hadthe option to get a used RX1 with the EV1 viewfinder for a little less than $1.5k or a used RX1r with no viewfinder for $1.7k, which would you go for?

Used RX1 and sell the EVF
EVF just kills the form factor/portability of the camera for me. I'll just use the A7 if I wanted a larger camera with an EVF. Also, the A7 EVF has a bit better eye relief, at least with regards to being able to view it clearly off angle. The RX1 EVF while nice resolution wise, feels like you really have to center your eye it in.
All things being equal I'd got for the RX1r, but having owned both, I just never really saw even $100 difference in the IQ between them. RX1 actually has a very weak AA filter, and can produce moire sometimes. Sony actually used to market what a highly developed AA filter they created. Naturally that bit of marketing got nixed when the R was introduced.
Not saying the R is a bad camera, but the RX1 version certainly isn't hurting for sharpness/resolution in the slightest.

Definitely the RX1 with EV1. More pixels are overkill for most of what I need a camera for. And (not to disagree with millsart, just stating a different opinion) I love the EVF. Most of the time I hold the camera against my chest with the EFV in the upright position, looking down into it with my good left eye. Very stable and (I think) unobtrusive, and seems to help me concentrate better on composition. Although in theory being limited to a single focal length is a disadvantage, the RX1 has so many advantages going for it that it is by far my favorite camera in almost 50 years of photography.

I do actually really like the tilting aspect of the EVF, and feel its the strongest feature. The real downside, at least for me, is simply that the EVF doesn't attach very well.
There is no means to lock it on, and it can slip out of the hot shoe fairly easily. I tried various rubber band/gaffers tape solutions that did do the trick of holding it in place.
Given its a pretty pricey item, I didn't really feel comfortable walking around with it unfixed in some manner. Just to easy to have it fall off somewhere and not realize it.
At the same time, when its attached, the camera is a lot taller, and all the coat pockets and various shoulder bags I have no longer fit it. Just becomes a bit more difficult to carry, so you want to take the EVF off...but then that hardly works if you previously spent 5 minutes taping it down.
Solution would be a positive lock. Take it and the EVF from the back, which store easily separated, lock in on, then walk around shooting without worry of losing it.
Its just all and all a surprising omission for a $400+ accessory on a high end camera.
If there is an RX2, things I would really like to see are a locking EVF (actually a built in pop-up style ala RX100 mkIII if I'm dreaming) and also a built in ND filter.

Are you guys using JPEGS or processing RAWS?
Depends on what I'm shooting, I might shoot mostly JPEG's a given day, if they are photos I don't plan to post process much, don't plan on converting to b&w etc, and then switch up for certain shots. Other days I might shoot mostly RAW, especially if its more of a landscape type shooting trip with the main intent being photography.
There are quite a few cool modes that only work in JPEG as well, such as the sweep pano, watercolor, HDR etc

Diablues , I like the image - Really like the composition and subject matter. Can you please let me know what F stop you used to get those lovely sunstars and was it taken using the RX1 or RX1R ? Thank you kindly, Adam.
