I just got the RX1 a few days ago. A US reseller had them for $1400 brand new with US warranty and it was more than I could bear. I use the Larmour screen protectors on all of my cameras including the D800E and the Fuji X series. Just installed one on the RX1 today.
My experience with fixed lens cameras has been with the Sigma Merrills and the Fuji X100. The RX1 is enough different from my usual cameras that I'm not quite as fast in the process of shooting. I'm pretty happy with the results, though. This is the sixth image out of the camera.

It was cowboom.com. They are a wing of Best Buy and several others jumped on them before I got mine so I was comfortable that it was a legit deal. You need to check early in the day as they don't have stock all the time. It took me two days to find one at this price.

Absolutely mind boggling images on this thread. Is the 35mm FE in the same ballpark as the RX1R lens?
I guess what I am asking is that the A7 + 35mm FE same as R1XR?

All reports by those with the RX-1 cameras is no. But the RX-1 lens is designed specifically for the sensor.

different looks – the FE seems harsher to me. also the rx1 has better corners at all apertures though the FE seems to be sharper in the center (doesn't really matter, both outresolve the sensor from wide open in the center).

Thanks everyone for the info about the screen. I just oredered a screen cover ( larmor). Hopefully, that will keep it from getting worse.

True on the harshness. There is something about the silkyness of the R1XR, reminds of when the 5D (or even the D30) was new.

I had the RX1 for almost 2 years, now I have A7 cameras and the FE35/2.8.
To me there's a very clear difference. I love the 35/2 Sonnar of the RX1 while I really dislike the FE35. Many don't agree, but I think it's an overpriced mediocre lens. The RX1 sonnar is the smoothest rendering 35mm that I know. The FE is the opposite. It looks harsh. It has very ugly bokeh. The things that are only mildly out of focus even make you feel dizzy (strong double edges). On top of that it also has some kind of forward focus shift. When you stop down hardly any DOF goes to the background... it goes more to the foreground. The 35/2 Sonnar doesn't have such weird quirks. It's a well behaved great lens.

I'm learning the camera and the weather is not co-operating. So I'm homebound and looking for stuff to shoot. Since there seem to be piles of old cameras everywhere that's where I'm shooting.
I'm finding that the camera works very well in manual focus for close up work. The AF is okay but the MF is better for my eyes. I also only shoot full manual exposure and much prefer the Fuji +/- scale to the + or - .3/.6. scales though I'm getting used to it. The Show Effect on LCD is a big help in metering in my shooting. I can get a pretty good idea as to how close to right I am on the initial exposure.

I feel RX1 in focus sharpness actually quite brutal. It has zeiss pop. (not really a compliment from me) But Bokeh seems better than most 35mm out there.
I did extensive comparison with RX1 and A7R with 35FE at the time I still had A7R and 35.(tripod and shutter delay) RX1 is sharp WO to corner, best lens I ever seen for this task. 35FE need f8 to fully clean the corner (either FC need more DOF or just not sharp).

My brief trial of the ZM35/1.4 (on an M240) reminded me of the RX1's Sonnar look. Maybe a bit more double edge to some oof background edge elements, but I'd like to try the two side by side to see how close they are. I'm by no means fluent with a wide range of 35mm lenses, but the ZM seemed pretty close. Not sure how well it will perform on the a7 series. Philippe's blog partner did a pretty lengthy test of it here
$1400 for an RX1 is pretty tempting... I wonder if there will ever be a v2? (I don't consider the 'R' version a true second version)

Yeh, $1400 is steal.
I will do a comparison once my copy arrived, at least for cross frame sharpness. For other character, I prefer shoot over the time to find out.
