I bought one a week after they were released, a true modern classic. There aren't many competitors, are there? If anyone threatened to take that RX1 away, I'll get this guy to stop them. Grrr. Not bad light but still needed 6400 / f2 / 1/60s.

Thanks Phillip! It means a lot considering how much I love your work. Unfortunately I'm going through about 300 shots from that day so there might well be more to come...

No, used, and at an increasingly larger discount over the new price each time. That is a large part of what always made it so tempting. Not only was it a great camera with an amazing lens, nice 24meg FF sensor, leaf shutter et al., that I really missed, but when I can get it for up to 50% of the new retail price its hard to pass up.
Easy to rationalize why you don't need it at $2799 all day long, but when you see it for $1400 the hand just kind of instinctively reaches for the "buy it now" button ...Show more →
I'd buy an RX1 for $1400 if I could find one for that price. That's an amazing discount.

that seems to be just under the going rate in the states. just watch the b&s board here and you should be able to find one at that price.

please, no more pictures like that! I really can't afford this camera, I don't need it and there are other nice 35mm lenses. right?

Samy's Camera, a Los Angels based retailer, in like new condition, via their Ebay site.
Shipping to China could raise the price a little I'm sure, but I would bet the Hong Kong camera market would have plenty of used RX1's, and at cheaper prices than the states ? No shortage of people selling them used in the states at least.
Good luck, sounds like a camera you would really enjoy. Small, lightweight, amazing build quality, near silent leaf shutter, amazing IQ, (not a Fuji )

Shipping to China is impossible. Customs here are so corrupt and convoluted that one would dare not expect a used camera to arrive at all. I've had so many horror stories come out of Chinese customs that I won't ever have anything shipped to me ever again. It's just not worth the hassle.

not as nice is this one.
Not as nice indeed. The used price here in Germany is still above 1.5k, if it was close to 1k I would really consider it. Hopefully the prices will go down when the RX-2 is announced.
By the way: have there been any reliability issues with the RX-1 so far?

My RX1 which I got when they first came out now has some screen surface problems at the top edges /corners of the screen where the black around the display has come off. Has this happened to anyone here yet? Are you using screen covers and if so which ones. Not sure how this happened since there are no scratches and I have never had any other cameras screens get scratched or have any problems like this despite not using screen protectors except on my D800E which came with it.

I think thats a general problem of many Sony cameras. I sent my 5n in because the antireflective coating had come of, they replaced the display but after a few weeks of use (without LCD cover, silly me) a lot of it is gone again.

yeah, my NEX had that too. i've had a screen cover on the rx1 since i got it so it hasn't developed my the rx1. unlike my original NEX-3 the screen is perfectly viewable in sunlight even with the screen cover.

Mine has the same problem and looks terrible. Before I got it I had only used Canon, so I wasn't aware that the Sony cameras need a LCD cover. Since I will send in mine to fix the aperture ring (hopefully the shop were right when they said it'll be covered by warranty) I'll ask them to fix the screen too. I'll probably have to pay for that part myself, but it shouldn't cost too much.
Another older shot, from just outside Trondheim (no, we weren't driving along that tractor road ):

I have my RX1 LCD covered by Sony's own LCD cover. It seems a good choice made, I don't realize they have this problem.
Helena, I have very similar shots from last weekend. Though not as good as yours
It was a 5 hour round hiking trip from Local, Fremont, Mission Peak. My kids did well. This part of Bay area looks green now every season and two month later, they are gone yellow, repeat year after year.
